Yesterday I re-opened my Roth IRA account. Yay!! And last night I attended a focus group screening that a friend from Virginia Beach directed. His name is Derrick Borte. Derrick and I rode BMX together and later were on the same championship surfing team – a long time ago in a land far, far away. Wow, those were some great times growing up in Virginia Beach.

Anyway, this is Derrick’s feature film directorial debut. The name of the film is “The Joneses” starring David Duchovny and Demi Moore. It was a rough-cut without color correction and final music, but I have to tell you I am really, really proud of Derrick. It looked great and it’s a fresh story that he also wrote. Not sure when it’ll be released, but be on the look out for it.

Print go-see “Volvo” @ Gayle Means Casting. You know how these are - quick, fast and in a hurry. Of course, I was looking at the photography equipment. I was in and out in a jiffy.

Audition “Sears” @ Plaster Casting. Wow! This same day call was my first commercial audition in 3 weeks. Seems like an eternity. Yes, it sure has been quiet ‘round these parts. It’s all good though; I have plenty of other things on my mind these days, but I wanna get back on set too or at least in the audition/callback room.

The audition went really well. It was one of those ones that seems like they could cast mostly anyone – I sure hope it’s me. There was another audition going on down the hall that I wanted to get in on so after comtemplating what to do I decided to call my agent to see what they could do. They did all I could ask; they immediately called the casting to, but didn’t get an answer. My agent told me to just ask and see if they would obliged me, but I got shut down by the woman running the lobby. In hindsight, I should have just worked my way in they way I know how, but I wasn’t feeling insanely lucky – I didn’t get seen, but I did the right thing…I think.

Photo shoot “aka Hackers”. This is a web series I supposedly have been cast in. I say supposedly, because I’m not really sure what is going on with it. My name was passed on to them from a director that I was a reader for several years ago. I didn’t audition for the project, but they have outlines of 19 webisodes and are pitching the concept to a working major film producer and a cable network. I really don’t know much more than that, if nothing else, hopefully I’ll get some cool photos out of the deal.

Wow, it has been SO slow lately. I haven’t had a commercial audition in 2 ½ weeks and my last theatrical appointment was much longer ago. Fortunately, I had a print go-see come thru.

Print go-see “Wells Fargo” @ Gayle Means Casting. Oh No! After working all night last night I totally overslept right through my appointment time. My appointment was between 2 and 2:30pm and I didn’t wake up until 3:44pm. Not good. I was so angry with myself that I didn’t even break my neck trying to get there. I waas smoldering. I took a shower, got myself ready and made my way over and hoped for the best. Fortunately it wasn’t too far from my apartment. As soon as I got there my agent called to try and find out where I was and why I didn’t make my allotted time. I was honest and told her that I work overnight, full-time and simply overslept. Usually, I set my BlackBerry alarm and it works fine, but this time my battery had run out and in my delirious state at 6:30 am forgot to put it on the charger. I got seen and it wasn’t a problem.

Later, since I’m planning to move when my current lease is up, I went to look at a new apartment. I had just parked my car and looked out the passenger window as I was rolling it up and whom do I see? The elderly couple that the husband had run over the wife on his scooter last Summer. The adventure is here. I looked over at them, not thinking they would remember me. The wife just kinda looked at me, but the husband looked and smiled…but he always smiles… I’m not sure, but it might be loose dentures that makes him smile...or maybe his wife makes him really happy. A good lady can certainly do that!

So I got out of the car and walked toward them ready to explain who I was and the husband said “Hey!” I said, “Do you remember me?” He said, “Yes”. I said, “I’m the guy from back when you had the scooter accident”. He replied, “Yes, I remember you. Thank you!” His wife still didn’t know who I was so he explained in their native language and she perked up right away and said, “Yes! Thank you!” I said to her, “Are you okay? How are you feeling?” She said that she still had a few pains from the accident but she was okay. She also laughed and told me that he is no longer allowed to drive the scooter. They are just the sweetest couple… and yes, that is proof what a good lady can do for a man. Oh yeah, and I liked the apartment I looked at next door, but it’s way early in my search so who knows where I’ll end up.

Callback “Wells Fargo” @ Alyson Horn Casting. Yes! I could book this spot! I know I can, I think I can! I am SO right for it and the “husband thing” has been working lately in commercials for me. The callback goes great! My wife was really cool; we even talked about motocross! I walked out feeling great – my work is done, now it’s up to them figure out that I’m the guy.

Today, myself and several other actors, read the scripts of students from Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles. It was a complete blast! Normally we work in whatever available space in the classroom, but this time we actually had a stage to perform on. It was so much fun and so SO important to participate. It was easy to see how much the kids appreciated our being there too. I look forward to doing it more and more in the future.

A few weeks ago I mentioned that an entertainment reporter from a major news outlet had contacted me with the idea of possibly doing a piece on “the working class actor” i.e. me. Well, I actually met him this evening and talked about a few ideas of how it might be put together. It was great to finally meet him after emailing and talking on the phone. Nice guy, very accomplished. At this point I’m not sure how it’s all going to come together, but I guess it eventually will.

Audition “McDonald’s” @ Ross Lacy Casting. Uh, this one went okay. Not great. I had to fake drinking a cup of coffee while vacuuming – not so much. Don’t think a callback is coming from that flat performance.

Audition “Wells Fargo” @ Alyson Horn Casting. Hmmm…I’m not sure how this one went. I was a little confused by the instructions. They had me paired up with a wife and we were supposed to tell a story about home improvements, but the story was supposed to be true. Huh? I just met this woman; we have no truth. I wasn’t sure what to do so I made up my own story, independent of her, but it wasn’t true either. The story, in itself, went well, but I’m not sure it’s what they were looking for.

I told them I was a condo owner and that an improvement I was REALLY looking forward to was building a bar…for all of my top-shelf liquor. What?!? I don’t own a condo and I’ve never had any top-shelf liquor or any liquor for that matter…in my life…not even a beer. The good thing is I was totally believable and passionate about it, but I was a confused abut whether I did the right thing or not. It wouldn’t surprise me if I get a callback…or not.
