Shooting: “Bubble Gum”.  This was the faith-based shoot I spoke of a few weeks.  It was very different as I hadn’t work with a student filmmaker in a long time.  The director was very much a stand up guy with a very clear mission.

Audition: “DirecTV” @ Francene Selkirk Casting.  This went great and SHOULD have callback written all over it.

Audition: “Lowe’s” @ Ross Lacy Casting.  Fun time in the room.  I feel so, incredibly fortunate that casting directors like Ross Lacy & Francene Selkirk, etc. call me in so often. I need to make them proud and book something soon.

Audition: “REI” @ Ross Lacy Casting.  This was a fun spot.  I think I made a poor choice of wardrobe and that got me in my head a little, but I think one of the 3 scenarios I performed in went pretty well…that’s better than none!

Audition: Pepsi @ TLC/Booth Casting.  I’m never sure how things go at this particular casting office because the session director, Leland, is just so interesting.  Actually, truth be told, I’m never sure how things go regardless of who the session director is.  I felt like I was “acting” a bit too much, but I’ll let the powers that be make that decision.

I arrived back in LA this morning after my 2 ½ week vacation and tonight I’m back on the floor waiting tables…talk about a reality check!

Shortly after I got to work a fellow employee said that she had a customer that was looking for SAG actors for a web series and gave me his card.  A while later the gentleman approached me, introduced himself, gave me a quick rundown of what he wanted to do and asked if he could call me tomorrow.  Well alrighty then…

Audition: “Truth Be Told” @ Jill Anthony/Gillian O’Neill Casting.  Since I’m still on vacation, this is going to be a self-tape situation.  I’m not at all an expert on the self-tape thing, but I have to get better at it and, in fact, embrace it.

I was pretty happy with how it came out even though I was super pressed for time…and not really in the head space to audition.  Word came back later that my agency and casting liked what I put together and my choices.

Still traveling. Right now my brother and I are enjoying a 4-hour layover in Copenhagen, Denmark.  Beautiful airport, it’s more like an upscale shopping mall.

After we finally boarded the plane and took off we…landed again.  At the same airport.

Not sure what happened, as most of the explanation was in a language I couldn’t understand.  We got more fuel and I’m not sure what else and took off again, bound for Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania.

My sister-in-law’s aunt and uncle picked my brother and I up from the airport to drive us to Å ventoji, a beach-resort town of around 3,000 people.  Obviously, quite different than Hollywood…and just what I’m looking for.

I thought this was funny.  So my brother and I are riding the shuttle bus @ Dulles International Airport, in preparation for our flight to Lithuania, and the driver asked us what airlines? I answered, "Scandinavian Air" and the only other person riding with us, a Caucasion woman, whipped her head around so fast and stared at us that I felt a breeze.

Can’t a few brothas take a European vacation?  We're just going to pick a few mushrooms. Honestly, I don’t think she meant anything by it.  She was probably just really curious.  Funny.

On another note, I received a message from a very talented actor friend that is now a staff writer on a network show.  She asked if I would ever consider coming to Burbank to do a table read for the show she writes on.

Ahh…let me think about that…YEAH!

I’m a little confused as to what the context is, but I’ll figure that out later.  I have no idea when the table read might be, but hopefully I won’t miss it since I won’t be back in LA for another 2 weeks.

Finally, my vacation has officially started…and I didn’t even get all of the way home to Virginia before getting my first appointment…back in Los Angeles.  It was an appointment for a show I’d REALLY love to be cast on, well, that’s just about any show.

The show is SCANDAL.

Oh well, there isn’t much I can do about it, except be thrilled that they have me on their radar.  I will be back!

Audition: “The Seminar” @ Susie Farris Casting.  Eh, this didn’t go so well.  It wasn’t “bad”, but it wasn’t good either and certainly not great.  I don’t know, it went better in my head, 34 seconds before entering the room.

Callback: “KIA” @ Cathi Carlton Casting.  This callback went well, not as good as the initial audition, but pretty well I think.

Fitting: “Xerox” @ Smuggler Productions.  Yeah!  Being at a fitting is ALWAYS a great thing for me.  The wardrobe person asked me to bring suits, shirts, shoes, ties, etc.  I, pretty much, brought my entire new wardrobe with me.  The wardrobe head couldn’t believe how well my suits looked on me and asked if they had been tailored.  In the end they chose and photographed two of my looks.

While rushing out to get to an early audition in Santa Monica my phone rings.

It’s KMR, my commercial agency.

My first thought was that I’d forgotten to confirm and they were making sure that I was going to be able to make it.  But then I remembered that I was on avail for “Xerox”.

Oh yeah, that.

I let the call go to voicemail…and waited.  I can usually judge what the call is about based on how long it takes for the voicemail to come through…I might be wrong, but it’s a fun game I play.

Okay, it took like 45 seconds for the message to arrive and the message is 38 seconds long.  Ooh, THAT is good news.  I smell a booking for “Xerox”…and that is exactly what it was!

Audition: “KIA” @ Cathi Carlton Casting.  C’mon man!  I am SO, incredibly perfect for this!  I’m expecting to get a call back on this one here!

Bright and early I received the news that I’ve been placed on avail for the “Xerox” spot.  Yay!

Audition: “Dunkin’ Donuts” @ Good People Casting.  I was as good as I could possibly be in this audition while “fake drinking” and thoroughly enjoying a hot cup of coffee…I’ve never had a hot cup of coffee in my life.  Or any type of coffee.  But I faked it like a champ!

Callback: “IBM” @ Dan Bell Casting.  This callback wasn’t anything but “butta”!  Me and my partner got it done!  Actually, my partner was someone I worked with previously at The Standard, Johnny Hawkes.  We totally connected in the room.  Man, I HAVE to be placed on avail or book this one…right?!?!?!

Audition: “IBM” @ Dan Bell Casting.  This was great! I think I’m perfect for it.  I walked out of the room feeling great about how things went.

Callback: “Xerox” @ Cathi Carlton Casting.  Well, parts of this really well, I think, and parts of it were “partly cloudy”.  They had me read for the role I auditioned for originally and also dialogue from a different spot.  The original role/spot went great, but one of the lines from the other spot was a real bit of a tongue twister; certainly not anything that was easy for me to say.  I walked out of the room just shaking my head.

The character called for me to wear business attire…so I wore a suit, since I have 4 new suits.  It’s also common for me to ride my skateboard from my car to the casting office.  I can usually feel the energy change in the room when I walk in with my board.  The visual must be a little confusing, but in an interesting way.  I never make a big deal about my board, but sometimes they ask if I really skate.  Of course I do, no posers here!  I mean, I’m not a “skate rat” by any means, but I can certainly get around.

In the end, I’m not sure how it all added up, but hopefully, I’ll be placed on avail…or booked.

Audition: “DraftKings” @ Cathi Carlton Casting.  This was fun and I had a great time in the room.

Not the stuff I normally book or even get callbacks/avails for, so we’ll see.

Callback: “Lowe’s” @ Francene Selkirk Casting.  Wow, there is so much construction going on around this location that I could’ve driven back home and skateboarded back to the audition location.  …I finally found somewhere to park and skateboarded from my car…which I often do.

The moment I walked into the building I was ushered into the callback session.  I barely had time to put down my skateboard.  The callback went great!  I went in with 2 different groups.  I felt a real connection with the director both times.  I hope an avail comes next!

Today is the 17th anniversary of my arrival in Los Angeles to further my acting career.  I had my first audition the very next morning at…you guessed it!  Francene Selkirk’s office.  Francene was at the callback today and I got to share this with her.  Such a sweet lady and I’m incredibly thrilled that she still believes in my talent and gives me the opportunity to work in my chosen field.

Oh yeah, about that avail, lol!

Audition: “AT&T U-verse” @ RMB Casting.  I think this one went okay.  I’m not sure, I had a great wife in the room, but I’m not sure about my performance…
