Okay, it’s official I’ve been released from my conflict on the “IBM” spot. It turned out really well for me. Although, I kinda thought they would pay 2 more cycles; it’s okay that they didn’t. It ran more than I thought it would and the ad agency told me that it wouldn’t run on Class A Network. Not only did it get a lot of Class A run, I received a nice foreign check and great internet spot out of it too.

Largely, the way I look at it if you’re not going to run it please release me and give me the chance to book some thing else in that category. I’ve others that have held me for a year and not run in busy categories like beer. So now I am free to audition for hardware and software again. Watch out!!!!

I got some great news from my friend Jonathan Julian. Jon and I have been friends for more than 20 years. Actually, he introduced me to my first acting teacher in Virginia Beach.

Anyway, back in 2002 he self-submitted for a project called "Noah's Arc" on www.nowcasting.com. He got an appointment, auditioned and booked a recurring role. It seemed like it took a year before they even shot the two episodes, but he was patient. Periodically, Jon would hear from the director, Patrick-Ian Polk, saying that he's "still writing" or "taking meetings". Jon didn't sweat it. Ya know how it is in Hollywood, everybody has something they're writing or pitching.

Patrick gained success some years ago with a feature called "Punks", so Jon knew he knew how to get something shot and finished.

One day in late 2004 Jon got word that Viacom was interested. They were starting a new network called "Logo". A couple of months later it was official! The deal was done; he was to recur in 6 of the 8 scheduled episodes.

He shot them, learned a lot, met a lot of people and even did some press junkets in and out of town. The episodes aired and were well-received.

They were picked up for a second season and just this week he got the news that he's been upgraded to a series regular. I am so excited for him. The gig will take him to Vancouver for two months of filming.

The funny part about this or not so funny is that he still doesn't have a theatrical agent therefore he doesn't get too many TV/Film appointments. Last pilot season he booked 5-6 days of work in the pilot of ABC's "In Justice" through a direct call from Zane/Pillsbury Casting. Just this week Zane/Pillsbury called him again for another pilot called "Alpha Mom" and he booked a role in that too. Through some other deveolpments I looks like some agent meetings are on the horizon for him. Go Jon!

Print go-see: "AOL" @ Lien/Cowan Casting. This is great! Jenny, my print agent, called to say she put my zed card together and sent it to the printers to be proofed. She seemed really happy with the outcome and thinks I will be the same. I gotta tell ya, I can't believe I got the card done in the time frame she requested. Getting my mojo back? Perhaps.

Audition: "Washington Lotto" @ Ross Lacy Casting. I felt great about this one. My auditioning partner and I did a "Denny's" commercial together years ago.

Tuesday, March 14, 2006

Audition: "Wachovia" @ Deborah Kurtz Casting. I was a father and husband in the spot. My "daughter" was the cutest little 4-year old girl. I booked a "Pizza Hut" through Deborah years ago. Time to strike again or at least get close.

Wow, today is my dad's birthday. We haven't spoken in about 3 years; I wonder if that'll ever change. Interesting, I guess I could change it by picking up the phone and calling him. Huh? Something to think about.

Of course my scheduled background work was while there was a big storm in town. The forecast was cold and wet. Dag!! I hate being cold and/or uncomfortable if I can help it. At least I'm getting paid AND the earnings go toward my SAG insurance.....gotta keep that coverage.

So I show up on-set in the Media Center Mall area of Burbank. Okay, the irony in my life really needs to stop because.......well just because......long story.

I gotta tell ya, it was interesting to show up as a background player. I'm much more used to being part of "the cast" and having a trailer. I checked in and took a seat outside under the canopy. Fortunately, it was a pretty small call, only about 10 background total. It was cool, I don't have a big ego or anything like that so I was chillin'.....literally, LOL!.

Sitting under the open-air canopy I realized immediately that one of two things was going to happen. Either this production worker, Mike, was going to be able to light the huge propane heater that sat in front of me OR all 10 of us were going to freeze our asses off. Afterall, it's only 8:30pm and they said we won't finish until daybreak. Needless to say, I was hoping for the former. After a few minutes it wasn't looking good, he couldn't get it to fire up. Oh nooo!

He put in a call to PA "Burke". A moment later, "Burke" made a guest appearance and sparked it right up. Thank God for Burke! That propane heater really put out some serious freakin' heat. We were almost as good as being inside.

Usually, in this business the name of the game is "hurry up and wait". I was prepared, I had my big "East Coast coat", 3 pairs on thermal underwear, gloves, several magazines, this new life altering book I've been reading for a couple of weeks and of course my trusty PDA.

Believe it or not after only about 15 minutes they came to get me and 3 others. Two of the others, actually a husband and wife team, seemed to know quite a bit about the business of SAG background work. While we walked to set they explained a bit of the "Background language" to me and the other first timer. They also told me it was double pay since it was Saturday, plus a night premium and an extra fee for the use of my car! Okay, cool. I knew when I've worked as a principal on a Saturday it was double pay, but I wasn't aware it was the same for background.

So we get to set and I see that it's a "VW Jetta" we are working with. I'm thinking to myself "not only is this a VW spot, but why a Jetta? Of all of the cars out there why a Jetta?" Don't get me wrong it's a beautiful car; I'd love to have it. Matter of fact, my first car was a VW Super Beatle back in the day. I know this seems weird for me to trip about this..........but it's a long story. Trust me, long and depressing, LOL!.

Immediately, I'm instructed to get in the drivers seat. After a moment or two I figure out that I am actually doing stand-in work. I've never been a stand-in before, actually I'm more used to having a stand-in. I guess that puts me one step closer to being able to say "I've done it all" LOL!

After 20 minutes of stand-in work sitting in the driver's seat. I sat in my car for about 3 hours and read, wrote and slept. Then dinner came at like 1 am and more sleep. After a while the 2nd AD came to get me to stand in again. I stood in for about 1 minute and went back to my car to read, sleep and write. At 5 am some of us were finished, but they needed 6 drivers. I volunteered to stay; we were already into overtime so it was good for the bottom line. I spent almost an hour waiting in my car for them to get the shot ready and then worked for about 7 minutes. After that @ 6am it was a wrap!

What a pleasant experience; 10 hours of sleeping, reading, eating and writing.......oh and a little bit of work. Everybody I met was very nice and personable, cast and crew. I was prepared for the worst, but it ended up being a very positive experience plus it didn't rain AND double $$$$.

I e-mailed my selects from the photo shoot to my print agent and she seemed very happy with the results. I don't really know much about the print arena so I'm just following what Jenny is telling me to do.

Thursday, March 09, 2006

My friend Heather Witbeck who I used to wait tables with in New York at The Harley-Davidson CafĂ© sent me a text message letting me know my episode of “Love, Inc.” was on. I turned on the TV and there I was right on the screen! Ha! How did I miss that? I would have sent out postcards if I knew it was coming up. Oh well, at least I’ll get paid again.

Funny how this bio/blog works sometimes. The whole blogger thing is trip; it's especially interesting how they are used by some. Good, bad or indifferent they are always entertaining. I try to keep mine uplifting and positive.

Anyway, a friend of mine who I hadn't spoken to in a while read about some of the things I am currently up to........for better or for worse, lol!

He's a photographer and offered to shoot my zed card for a very, very, very reasonable rate. Last Summer/Fall he went on an incredible 6-month photo journey to Europe and took over 100,000 photos. I don't think there is any way I could embark on such a journey alone. Most of the time he didn't know the language or where he was sleeping on a given night.

He recounted a harrowing experience in Serbia where he was removed from the bus he was riding and accused of being a terrorist. WHAT??! Yeah, they checked his passport and all the countries he'd been too and he looked quite suspicious. Then they said his passport was a fake. He somehow wiggled his way out of it. Afterall, (his words) "I'm just a white kid from Chicago".

His name is Aaron Wulf; he is currently re-working his website. I'll post a link when it's up and running. We had a great time shooting. The best part for me was getting to flex a little on my mountain bike. I ain't saying I got mad skills or nuttin' like that, but for a cat my age I can definitely get down wit da get down......a little. I really need to ride more often.

Ya know, I've been in Los Angeles for almost 8 years and I have yet to have a single audition for a daytime soap. Not even once and I've tried. I was in New York for 4 years and only had one soap audition in all of that time.

Another market I've tried to crack at various times with absolutely no success is the SAG background work market. I did a lot of it in New York and would've done the same here except for two reasons.

One: I was a little confused by the having to register with a "background agency". What? I don't remember ever doing that in New York.

Two: I literally started auditioning for principal roles in commercials the first day I landed in Los Angeles. I had 3 auditions and 3 callbacks the first week I was in town, thanks to my wonderful agents @ KSA.

The last thing I wanted to do was have background work conflict with principal auditions that my agents were working so hard to get for me. So I didn't pursue it.

A couple of years later after leaving my job @ The Hollywood Standard I decided to try to open up more revenue streams in "the biz". So I submitted to 3 or 4 commercial background agencies to attempt to get in their files. I mailed and I mailed and I mailed some more and nobody would ever call me to get in their books so I could actually be submitted for work.

I never got upset or frustrated. Actually, I thought it was kind of funny. Here I was able to book a series of commercials that ended up being 4 days of work in Los Angeles and later 5 more in Japan and a role in "The Terminal" with Tom Hanks directed by Steven Spielberg all from dropping off my own photo. Yes, a drop-off BUT I couldn't get a call from a commercial background agency to save my life!

So, needless to say, I was shocked when Alice Ellis Casting called to see if I was available to work on a "Volkswagen" commercial on Saturday night. Sure, I have nothing going on Saturday night that's going to earn me a check (Although, I wished it was any other carmaker than Volkswagen.....long story).

It's great timing because I didn't have one single audition this week, which is kinda rare for me.

Print go-see: "HSBC" @ Brigid McBride Casting. WHAT!!! Already? I haven't even gotten my zed card done yet. I'm kidding, I'm sure it's just a coincidence. I had to strip down to my underwear for this one. Huh! Me? What the heck were they thinking? Oh well.

I haven't been on my regular workout schedule for a minute, but I sure snuck one in early this morning before going in. Thankfully, I had that motivation because I definitely would NOT have been at the gym. Maybe this is a good sign to breathe new life into my print career. Ha! Time will tell. Off to the races in San Bernardino.

The piece I did for NPR with Debra Zane Casting and her associate Tannis Vallely aired this morning. Obviously, I knew I had done it and Deb called to tell me when it was running, but I just thought it was for local radio. I forgot that NPR stands for National Public Radio. I was surprised when I got calls from people in other states. My voice sounds funny to me on the radio, but maybe that's good. Click to listen. I even got a photo with Deb!! What!!! They even spelled AND pronounced my name wrong. What!!!

Also this morning I met with Kelsey Edwards to discuss shooting my zed card for print. I really liked her and I think she liked me…..imagine that!!! She even liked what I wore, which was great because I don't have a whole lot of style to speak of. We were on the same page as far as what I'd be trying to sell so I think that's a great start. I also met with Karl Preston and I liked him too, but I think I'm set on shooting digitally. I'll be meeting with a few others and checking websites to make a decision and get on with it.

Audition: "McDonald's" @ Cervantes/Nomad Casting. Went great!

Thursday, March 02, 2006

Audition: "Cingular" @ Sobo Casting. This one had a lot of copy which I think I handled quite well. Callbacks are in the morning so I'll guess I'll know soon enough.

Wednesday, March 01, 2006

Audition: “Freddie” @ Zane/Pillsbury Casting. This was straight to producers and it went really well. I’ll know one way or the other because it works tomorrow. I’ve booked twice through Debra Zane Casting, but I can’t seem to stick in her sisters’ Bonnie Zane’s office. I’ll get it right one day; they keep calling me in so I must be doing something right.

Tuesday, February 28, 2006

I had my meeting this morning with Jenny Vavra, head of the print department @ KSA. I've been with them for over 7 years, but I haven't ever given them the proper tools to work with – the zed card. Why? I have an excuse; it’s not really a valid one, but one nonetheless. Here it goes. I don’t like shooting headshots and I get a pretty good number of commercial and theatrical appointments; so I just didn’t make it the priority that I should have.

Over the years my agent Jenny has been using my headshots and getting me what she could. Shame on me!! Having a zed card could have made both of us more money over the years. Oh well, today is the first day of the rest of my life. I kinda feel bad because a lot of people would love to be repped by KSA and I've been just hoping for the best. Gotta stop that.

This meeting was to get me on the correct track to move forward in the print arena. Jenny made me feel really comfortable and explained a lot of things to me. She also told how this bio/blog played a part in getting me in the office. Funny how things work sometimes. I left with a clear understanding of what type of photos she wants and a list photographers to meet with. She also gave me a time frame of when she would like to have these things in hand. I like that "you gotta help me help you" way of working. That's the line I added to the one line I had scripted in "The Terminal" and it actually made the final cut. Thanks Steven Spielberg!

This afternoon I helped out in the office @ Natasha Cuba/Jeanne McCarthy Casting this afternoon. They are swamped, they've got like 10 episodes of an F/X show to cast THIS WEEK. Crazy. It reminded me of what we are really up against as actors. I am still amazed every time I get an audition for anything; the competition is unbelievable.

Back to Los Angeles......hmmmmmm. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I have this constant issue with being in Los Angeles versus being back home in Virginia Beach. I've considered going back for a period year and see how that felt. I don't know, I just kinda wonder how long I'll do this. At the same time I am actively pursuing my career. I'm just having a lot of conflicting thoughts that's all.

While I was home my sister-in-law gave me a book about relationships, actually I knew she had it and asked her for it. It's quite interesting, including some things I hadn't really thought about. Timing is very important and things happen when they are supposed to......usually......at least that what I hear. I wasn't supposed to have this book 6 months ago, two years ago or seven years ago. I'm supposed to have it now AND I'm actually reading it!

I'm starting to actually convince myself that I want to fit some other things in my life and it's kinda scary to be honest. I remember how I felt when I moved from New York and from Virginia. I can't leave, I've worked entirely too hard and smart and things are going too well and ........right? I can't leave. I can't leave. I can't leave. Oh yeah, I love my agents too. They are the best, all of them.

RACE DAY:It was beautiful yesterday, but today it is freezing. It was about 30 degrees for the morning practice. We had to wear latex gloves under our riding gloves to keep our hands from getting too cold to hold on. I felt pretty good in practice and ready to have a great race.

In the first moto I got an okay start. The fact that I hadn't fallen was a great way to start things off! I was picking off riders at a pretty good rate because a lot of guys wouldn't do the double jumps and I could. So here I am in traffic going through the rhythm section, which was 3 sets of doubles in a row. I see trouble ahead, a rider landed crooked and ran into another rider and I ran into that rider. It was all happening in slow motions. I hit his bike pretty good, actually I kinda landed on it. Of course I go down too. I was trying to get up, but the bike is kinda on the face of a jump AND it weighs more than I do. I keep the bike running and roll it off the side of the jump and then fall off the other side of the bike. Finally with bike still running I get back on and take off. Thankfully I wasn't hurt, but I was pissed!!!! I was able to work my way back passed some of the riders, but before I knew it the race was over. I finished the moto 12th out of 22. I know I could have run in the top 8, which I would have been happy with considering I don't ride often.

I was livid when I got back to the truck. Both of my brothers had beat me; Todd finished 8th and Jeff finished 9th. I was so upset with my performance and then Todd noticed that my front tire had a slice in it. I don't angry too often, but I was really angry. I was SO angry, but after a while I realized that I should have been thankful that I didn't get hurt. I ended up having to pay to get the tire replaced. The rider I ran into didn't even finish the race. I hope he's okay.

It's hard trying to ride with my brothers when they get so much more time on the bikes than I do, but I do the best I can. So for the second moto I was just gonna go for it and see what happened. I got an ok start, but I had Jeff in sight. Over the first set of doubles I saw that he went down and his bike was kinda tangled with other riders. I was trying to just move forward at my own pace and, at all cost, stay on two wheels. It worked, for a while until some "fast guy" came in behind me in took us both out in a turn. It took him a while to get his bike started and it took me even longer to get mine going again...............even Jeff passed me. I just shook my head. Jeff has NEVER been faster than me, but he finishes ahead of me by playing it safe....really safe. Todd on the other hand; we are really close in skills and if I lived there and rode on the regular it would be a whole different story. So there you have it Todd wins again with a 6th place overall out of 22. Jeff finished 10th and I came in 13th. It's just frustrating because I know I can be up there much closer to the front.

It's all about quality time with the family baby! My youngest brother Todd and I are going motocross riding today in preparation for a race tomorrow. My first of four practices was really bad. My mind just wasn't there and I was really jet lagged. There were only about 8 riders on the track and since I don't ride too often I was a little nervous and it really showed.

The second practice had about 30 guys I was right there, in the mix, making it happen. The third practice was great, I was able to put jump combinations together and dice with my brother even able to pass him a couple of times. The last practice was short and I blazed through it quite well. I didn't fall all day long.

One of the highlights of the trip was after riding all day getting to stop by the family deli that we've had for almost 26 years and get a Philly Cheese Steak Hoagie. I even made it myself. I worked there for 15 years and I still got skills on the grill!

Friday, February 24, 2006

There's something about snow-capped mountains. I'm mesmerized every time I see them. I don't know what it is about them, but they give me a good feeling.

Home Sweet Home! I absolutely, positively love going home. I have the greatest time when I am with my family. Sometimes I ask myself "why the heck am I so far away from them?" Of course I know the answer, but it still begs the question......quite often actually. I just feel really fortunate to have such relationships with my siblings; we have a lot of great times together. My family isn't perfect, but they make it known that they love and support me unconditionally - and occasionally that love is "tough love". I always feel kind of sad when I talk to friends that rarely talk to or visit their family. I couldn't image. I'm currently not in contact with my father, but there is still time for that to change too.

Don't get me wrong about LA, until very, very recently moving to New York had been the most significant decision I'd made in my adult life. Los Angeles has been great too, but how long will I stay? I really don't know. I do know that I love being home in Virginia Beach and I feel I have options. I don't have to stay here. I also know that I've worked too hard, invested too much and have seen too many results to seriously think of leaving.....yet. Also, I have to say that some of the SAG contracts that we currently work under are not so great. Hopefully the new guild leadership can turn things around. That is a major thing that I'm looking at. Can I really, actually, continue to make a living at this? Do I want too? I "think" I do.

Thursday, February 23, 2006

I did a bunch of drops today and even though I was kinda phoning it in I got quite a bit done. I was out until after dark then I went to Costco and had an amazing experience. Yeah, Costco kinda does it for me - there and the 99 Cents Only stores are my spots!

I've been trying to position myself to buy a condo or townhouse - at least in my head for starters. I actually gathered the guts to check my credit. Yeah, after getting in a not so great position credit-wise, many, many years ago I pretty much went "underground" and paid cash for everything - for years. If I couldn’t pay cash for it I didn’t get it. That was actually not a bad thing for me to do as an actor. So in recent years I've gotten back on the map and I'm not in such a bad position - at least not as bad as I thought.

I couldn't imagine buying a place with someone other than family - unless I was married of course. Fortunately, I have some family members who have considered investing in something here in Los Angeles. I'm only in the embryonic stages of mapping out how I would actually do it, but we all have to start somewhere.

Back to Costco, when I was looking at the mechanical tools I was in heaven. I can’t wait to have my own garage where I can build things - I really like tools. I should have been a mechanic or something. I think the garage is going to be my favorite room in the house! It would be spotless - with carpet on the floor. You can put carpet on the garage floor right? Of course you can, I know a young lady who had carpet in the kitchen! Then I could vacuum the kitchen. I don't know that I'll get a garage for my first purchase, but it's something I want in the future. Gotta have somewhere to keep my motocross bikes.

I actually looked at places tonight in a different kinda way. Like really thinking about what type of place I would like to live in. I even wrote down one listing. It at least felt different - it felt good. I guess I would have to get a roommate…or not. After all of these years of living alone that would take some getting used to. Well, I gotta get out of here. LAX is calling. Travel always inspires me, so I should be getting my game face back on soon.

Audition: "Kingsford Charcoal" @ Craig Colvin Casting. This audition went well, but it was so, so symbolic of my life right now it wasn’t even funny.

Friday, February 17, 2006

Audition: "Fox Promo" @ Ross Lacy Casting. This one was fun. I got slapped on the ass by a woman......twice. Then I got to slap her on the ass. I'm not a pro at getting slapped by women, although it has happened. I prefer it in a fun, light audition situation in which the woman is not upset with me.

Wednesday, February 15, 2006

Audition: "Spiderman 3" @ Francine Maisler Casting. This role is one scene as a bar manager. I think I'm right for the part; maybe a little young. I felt the audition went really well. I had a couple of questions about the scene and we put it on tape two different ways. I did what I wanted and felt really great about the outcome.

I thanked them and told them how glad I was to get into a casting office of that stature. They said it was great to meet me and now they can get me in for more things in the future.

Ironically, when I went to pick up the material for the audition my agent, Erin, asked if I even wanted to go in on it. Yeah, I love that, she doesn't just assume that I would read for just one scene in a film.......even "Spiderman 3". Of course "I" never considered "not" going in, BUT that reminds me that she reps actors who wouldn't even consider reading for such a role......even in a film such as "Spiderman 3". I can't wait to make some real money for them.

Tuesday, February 14, 2006

Audition: "Visa" @ Deborah Kurtz Casting. This goes well and I think I fit the profile........but what do I know? Not much.

I stopped by to see all of my agents today - commerial and theatrical. I also re-signed with KSA for another 3 years. Jenny the head of the print department suggested I get a zed card made up. I don’t go out for print very often, but I also have never given them the proper tools to submit me. So I don’t complain, but funny enough I have been placed on avail a few times in the last year. She suggested I come in for a meeting to look over all of my photos and get suggestions of who I should shoot with. Okay, cool. I guess she thinks I can actually book work in the print world, I’ll take her word for it. Thanks Jenny and Rose for even trying to get me out with the wack-ass tools I’ve given you over the years. Sorry.

Thursday, February 09, 2006

Callback: "Washington Mutual" @ Alyson Horn Casting. This is a huge 10-spot campaign. I'm a little surprised I got a callback, but I guess I fit the profile of what they are looking for. Wow, a 10-spot campaign? I could buy a house/condo.......maybe. They even provided real "Washington Mutual" shirts for the callback. The copy kept changing while I was waiting and even still while I was auditioning. I did my best to not let that throw me too much. I think I did pretty well.

Wednesday, February 08, 2006

Audition: "Liqua Feed" @ Mick Dowd Casting. Simple, just spraying a water hose while smiling; even I can do that.

Tuesday, February 07, 2006

Audition: "Dharini" @ Tineka Becker Casting. This is for an AFI thesis film. The character is a 40 year-old high school science teacher. Tineka is an associate @ Burrows/Boland Casting. ....hmmmm another 40 year-old character; there must something to that. It goes well.

Friday, February 03, 2006

Tonight my youngest brother Todd and his son arrived from Virginia Beach, VA to attend a motorcycle race in Anaheim. It was sooooo great to see them.......you have no idea.

They flew into Santa Ana because it was cheaper so they had a really long day. My 7 year old nephew thought my living quarters were just hilarious. I mean he started snickering and laughing before he even got inside my studio apartment.

In Virginia, he lives in a normal 4 bedroom home with a two-car garage on a nice lot. He has his own room. So do I, but that's all I have. LOL!

EXT/INT. Stephon’s place – 11:55pm

Stephon, Todd and my nephew are entering my building and heading up to the 2nd floor studio apartment. My nephew is looking around amazed, amused and already snickering. As we enter………

STEPHON: What's so funny?

NEPHEW: (He looks at his dad for approval before he completely clowns me). Is this where you live?

STEPHON: Yeah, what is so funny about that?

NEPHEW: (Laughing) Is that your bed?

STEPHON: YES! That is my bed.

NEPHEW: Sydney's bed is bigger than yours. (Sydney is the little sister of one of his friends.)

STEPHON: (I'm thinking to myself Sydney is 2, she cannot possibly have a bed larger than my full size. Can she?) Sydney's bed is not bigger than mine.

NEPHEW: She has more pillows.

STEPHON: Whatever! Punk! Go to sleep. Aren't you supposed to be jet lagged or something.

NEPHEW: LOL!

STEPHON: (to his dad) Yo, this kid did a full day in school, took a cross-country flight and he has enough energy to clown me?

TODD: That's your nephew.

The were in town for about 32 hours and the timing was really bad.

Tuesday, January 31, 2006

Audition: "Bremer Bank" @ Craig Colvin Casting. Ahh….it goes ok. I don’t think I really “got it”.

Monday, January 30, 2006

Audition: "According to Jim" @ Zane/Pillsbury Casting. I went on tape for producers and felt really good about it. Gayle Pillsbury is really, really cool and a pleasure to read for. It would be nice to book something........and soon.

Friday, January 27, 2006

Tonight I get the call that I’ve been officially released from the “McDonald’s” avail. No big surprise there. The role was an almost haunting parallel to what I am going through in my life right now.

Wednesday, January 25, 2006

Audition: "The Learning Channel" @ Melissa Martin Casting. I haven't been to this office in a while. The read goes great.

Audition: "Washington Mutual" @ Alyson Horn Casting. Lots and lots of dialogue, I did pretty good with it. They were patient with me and gave me a couple of tries.

After the audition I was interviewed for a research study by a UCLA graduate student. It was about how working actors construct their sense of being within their professional settings. It was anonymous so I won't be held accountable for what I said. That’s probably a good thing because my head was spinning the whole time.

Callback/Avail: "McDonald's" @ Ross Lacy Casting. I still haven't booked in years at this office, but my callback ratio has improved somewhat. I guess that's a good start. The callback goes really well, they kept me and my partner in the room for a good while. I assume they saw something they like in her, me or us. I would love to book this spot; it's been a while sense I've done a fast-food commercial. My agent informs me later to say that I made it to the next round and am still on avail. Cool!

Audition: "Texaco" @ TLC/Booth Casting. This one goes well and I think I'm right for it.

Monday, January 23, 2006

Audition/Producers: "House" @ Amy Lippens Casting. I felt good about this one; I did what I set out to do.

Friday, January 20, 2006

Audition: "Safeway" @ Sheila Manning Casting.

Audition/Producers: "Courting Alex" @ Jill Anthony & Associates. My life is getting in the way of…….my life. So much that, for the first time I missed a producer session. Yeah, I entered "2:40pm" instead of "2:15pm" into my schedule. I'm going crazy - literally.

I got to the office, signed in…….waited…..and waited. Finally, right as I was re-checking the time on my voicemail the assistant came to tell me that the associate, Beth Soike, was on the phone and wanted to talk to me. She said she was sorry but they wouldn't be able to see me. The session had ended and the producers were gone. That is when I realized I had the wrong time. I apologized profusely and she seemed to be okay with it. I felt horrible and so irresponsible. I have got to get things back on track or I'm going to lose my mind. Not good.

I especially hated missing this because I was in this same casting office last week for a series regular on a pilot and was really glad to get back in so soon. Also, I saw a couple of friends on the sign-in sheet that I would have loved to possibly work with, Mike McGill and Bruno Amato. I later found out that Bruno booked one of the roles. Go Bruno!!

Wednesday, January 18, 2006

Audition: "OSH Hardware" @ Alyson Horn Casting. This goes well.

Audition: "The Shield" @ FMW Casting. This was a three page scene as a gay character having a little "war of words" with one of the regular cops on the show. It went well and I think I'm very right for it. Hopefully, I'll get a callback.

Audition: "Prudential" @ Sheila Manning Casting. This audition was a lot of fun. I played a 40-year old father with a wife and two kids. WHAT!!! Yeah, 40! Oh well; I guess Sheila has quite an imagination...cool. My family was incredible, we had the best time.

JANUARY 16th '06*Audition: "McDonald's" @ Ross Lacy Casting.

Friday, January 13, 2006

Wow, pilot season has officially begun for me. I don’t usually get any pilot auditions this early in the season, but my agent called with one today. Hopefully, between this and my commercial activity it will be a busy Spring. I really wanna keep myself busy and then leave LA for a vacation in June. I’m thinking of going to Europe to visit my older brother and see my new niece. Gotta make some cheese first though!!

Audition/Pilot: “Sex, Money, Love & Politics” @ Jill Anthony & Associates.

Tuesday, January 10, 2006

Audition: “Sprint” @ Ross Lacy. This was mostly improv and my partner was great. Actually, he looked just like my friend Alan Heitz and has the same comic sensibilities; they look and act JUST alike. I also ran into Kevin Christy at the audition. I’ve worked with Kevin twice in the past, most recently on “Love, Inc.”. We both currently have “IBM” spots running. He’s like on a first name basis with the “IBM” people; he’s appeared in numerous spots for them. I hope both of our spots keep running.

Today would have been the 46-year anniversary of my parent’s marriage – wow. That’s a long time. I don’t know if that’ll happen for me, I’m getting a late start. Maybe if I live until I’m 140.

Monday, January 09, 2006

Callback: “K-mart” @ Joe Blake Casting. I felt this went well. I have worked with the director, Brian Aldrich, twice in the past, but I don’t think he remembered me. I took his direction and did what he asked me to do……I think.

Friday, January 06, 2006

Wow! Welcome back to the biz. Alicia, Brooke, Jenny, Tracy, Don and Rose, my agents and assistants @ KSA seem to be really be in the business of "get Stephon Fuller a job!". I love it. I had 5 auditions today; four commercially and one for print.

They are doing what they are expected to do and more......now I have to do my part. I had a pretty good day. They say "you can't have it all" and I don’t, but I've got a lot. I really do. In the biz and out.

Audition: "T-mobile" @ Spot Casting. This is a mistake that I have made before and I have to stop. When the call came in from my agent, they told me "sides are available @ LA Casting". For some reason I forget over and over to download and prepare the sides that are "available @ LA Casting". I guess because commercials don’t usually have too much copy.

So, of course, I get to the audition at the Casting Studios and within 30 seconds they are taking my photo and bringing me in the room. It wasn't a lot of dialogue, but enough that I needed to know what I was doing. Fortunately, my wonderful auditioning partner, who had heard the group explanation, was more than willing to help. In the end, the audition went great.

Audition: "K-mart" @ Joe Blake Casting. This was great because my auditioning partner was Dionne Lea. Dionne and I did a play together back in '97 when I lived in New York. It's always great to see people from years ago that are still in the game.

Audition: "Dairy Queen" @ Joe Blake Casting. Another one that goes well.

Audition/Print Go-See: "Audi" @ Brigid McBride Casting. I get to the location in Venice 90-minutes late because of some of the other appointments running long. 5 digital pics and I’m in and out pretty quick.

Audition: “Wendy’s” @ Ross Lacy Casting. Fortunately, I was still able to get seen for this one; I was an hour late. Actually, my auditioning partner from the “Dairy Queen” spot earlier was my partner for this one too. This caps a great day of running around LA.© 1993 - 2005 stephonfuller.com All Rights Reserved

Back in LA and getting up to speed. When I return to town I always want my agents to see me in the flesh so I stop by both offices. I get the feeling from both offices that it’s getting ready to be really busy. I’m ready for ’06!!

Tuesday, January 03, 2006

Wow, that was quick! It’s already time to return to LA. This was an interesting trip for a couple of different reasons. Most of the time it was fantastic, and part of the time not so fantastic. All in all it was really cool. I absolutely love the fact that I’m really getting to see my younger niece and nephew grow up. They “really” know who I am and I love it. I am fortunate to have the bond that I do with my family.

Matter of fact my younger brother Jeff is coming to visit me in a couple of weeks and then my other younger brother Todd and his son are coming a couple of weeks after that. While they’re here we’re going to Supercross races in Anaheim.

Planes and tears seem to go hand in hand with me. I used to love to fly. I still do, but it brings back so many memories of flying back and forth when my mother was sick. It always catches me by surprise, but at least once while flying you will catch me bawling my eyes out. I find that they best way to deal with it is to not fight it; just let the tears flow and flow they do.

Today is the day for the big family outing to the motocross track. Between the family and others in the neighborhood it ended up being about 14 people going. The weather was nice and we had a great time.

My friend who was visiting got a chance to see me ride after hearing me talk about it for so long. I think she was surprised to see me so spooked when I first arrived at the track because I didn’t want to get hurt. I know how dangerous it is and I need to go back to LA healthy. It was really just a matter of me taking a moment to realize what I was about to do on the motorcycle.

She was supportive and I eventually warmed up and had a good day. My little brother still beat me though, but I’m telling you it would be a different story if I rode as often as he did.

In the first race I got out front and made it through a couple of turns, the first set of doubles and then lost it on the second set of doubles. It was the coolest crash. I knew I didn’t have the speed to make the second set of doubles, but I went for it anyway. Not smart.

About two-thirds of the way through, still in the air, I tried to bale off the bike, but I couldn’t get away from it on the landing. The bike landed on both wheels and I landed very softly with my butt on the seat. The only problem was that my left leg was on the handlebars. The bike just kept rolling about 10-15 feet until it just fell over. By this time I went from 1st to 4th. I picked up the bike with the engine still running and got back in the race. I think it was the most comfortable crash I’ve ever had.

My brother Todd and our friend Tommy and Jeff opened up a nice lead on me. I felt I could catch my brother Jeff. Sure enough, I paced myself, caught and passed Jeff like a stalker. All in all I felt good.

We raced a couple of more times and I was never able to beat Todd or Tommy, but I waxed Jeff’s’ ass every time. I’ll keep working at it.

NEW YEARS EVE!! ’05 is over! It was a pretty good year for me. I am looking for ’06 to be much better in many ways. I’m usually pretty low-key on New Years, but this year I had a very, dear friend to spend it with and I actually kinda hollered and hooted like something was really happening. Well, something was happening; I’m just not sure what it was.

Wednesday, December 28, 2005

Today I get to go motocross riding for the first time since July. This was a great day, because I had a chance to just ride lap after lap. I felt I learned a lot, but my little brother came to the track after work and beat me. After all, he rides way more than I do. I am getting better though AND I didn’t get hurt.

Sunday, December 25, 2005

MERRY CHRISTMAS!! I had a great day except for a stiff neck for some reason. I got some cool things too, which is always a bonus because I don’t expect anything other than some time off. One thing that was really unique from a very, very special person was a couple of t-shirt with my name on it. It’s kind of a long story……but they are cool. Another thing was my little brother selling me one of his motorcycles at a really, really low price. I always had a bike to ride, but now I officially have my own bike. Thanks Jeff.

Saturday, December 24, 2005

FINALLY!! I’m leaving LA for the holidays! I am SO glad to be going home. I wish I would have left about 3 days ago, but I elected to stay until the bitter end because I didn’t want to take a chance on having to change my plane ticket. Of course, I didn’t have any appointments all week. Go figure.

Wednesday, December 21, 2005

Last week I called Ogilvy & Mather, the advertising agency in New York, to see if my “IBM” commercial had been renewed for another cycle. During the last cycle they bought foreign use, which was a very nice surprise. I’ve only actually seen the spot once before, but I did see it the other night on ABC/Monday Night Football while working out at the gym with my friend and two people called me to say they saw it at other times. Several months ago they told me it probably would not run Class A, but it did a few times during the last cycle.

Anyway, when I talked to them last week I requested a copy and the gentleman said he would "pass the word" to the accounting department. To be honest, it didn’t sound like I would really get a copy that easy. Sure enough, FedEx delivers the tape today. Enclosed was a very nice note from the Assistant Account Executive who said that due to the delay of the next “IBM” campaign launch I would start seeing my spot airing on Network TV. THAT is great news, really great news. I just need to move pass the “on avail” step more often. I think a commercial class is in my future for early ’06.

Monday, December 19, 2005

This totally caught me surprise today. I was talking to one of my younger brothers in Virginia about wanting to buy a condo or townhouse (what's the difference?) here in Los Angeles and he said that he would be interested in possibly buying a place together with me. THAT was great news!! It definitely made my day. Afterall, since I don't have a wife yet, he is someone that is always going to be in my life. I still have a lot to do before I even "really" get into the mental space of making it happen, but this is encouraging to even consider.

Relationships!!!!! Boy, they can be hard and they can be beautiful. I’ve been through both let me tell you - hard and beautiful. Actually, I won’t tell you, but I think most of us have experienced it. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve dated some really amazing women in my day. I’m quite sure I’m a handful to deal with and they probably have the scars to prove it! Good luck to the women of the world!!! Ha!

Anyway, tonight I was driving to one of my favorite stores, Costco, in Burbank. I wasn’t feeling particularly great, personally. Ya know, dealing with some “stuff”. I was in the Media Center Mall area of Burbank to be exact. I became familiar with the area a couple of years ago when I started dating someone who lived over there. It just seems to be less stressful than the Miracle Mile area that I currently live in. It has wider, smoother streets and there seems to be lots of parking. I know, sounds crazy, huh? Well, maybe it’s the side of me that has lived in this studio with no parking for 7 years. Maybe it reminds me of being home in Virginia Beach.

Sure, I could just move over there, but I don’t want to move into another rental if I can help it and I don’t want to move into a rental with a roommate. I mean, I’ve been paying rent here for 7 freakin’ years and I have nothing to show for it. That is not a great feeling.

My ex and I actually flirted with the idea of buying something together, but I don’t think that would have been too smart for either of us. She moved forward with the idea with her roommate and I think it has me consumed with doing something similar. I don’t know how I could afford buying something by myself, I don’t have any male friends that I could think of doing something like that with and if I do it with a woman she’ll be my wife…..or at least fiancĂ©…..I think.

I would, however, consider having a roommate if I had a mortgage. Food for thought; something to think about while I’m on vacation.

Anyway, back to my Costco trip. While turning left onto Victory from Magnolia I saw a car that was sitting in the intersection and it appeared to be stalled with nobody helping. I immediately pulled over and jumped out to push the car out of the roadway. Before I could even get there 3 men were there already pushing; THAT was a great thing for me to see. It really warmed my heart.

Once the womans’ vehicle was safely off the road the other men cleared out in a flash. I stayed to see if I could help in any way. The driver, an older Mexican woman, was really stressed out with a very long un-lit cigarette in her mouth. I asked her what was going on. Obviously, the car wouldn’t start. I wanted to figure out why. It was trying to start, so the battery was fine. She had fuel, but it wouldn’t run smoothly. I think it was a bad fuel pump. After a while of her trying to start it I asked if I could jump in and try it; she happily obliged. I got it started, but it would idle very, very roughly and I didn’t think it would get her far.

Through her accent, she told me she was on her way to work at the same place that her daughter worked, somewhere up on Roscoe Blvd. I hadn’t been up on Roscoe Blvd. since my car was towed and taken up there…..whole ‘nother story.

I wasn’t in a hurry so I offered to take her the rest of the way. She was understandably hesitant and explained that it was her daughters’ car and she didn’t know what to do. I asked if she had AAA and she replied “no”. I didn’t want to leave her on the side of the road, but there wasn’t much more I could do so I offered her a ride again. I told her I understood if she didn’t want to accept, but I am know one to be afraid of and that I “wanted” to help. She looked at me for a moment and kinda sighed and said “I believe in God”. I said “Great, I’ll be right back with my car”.

Oh yeah, that long-ass cigarette she had in her mouth was now lit. I was curious if she would be so bold to smoke in my car, or at least try. Nobody had smoked in my car before. I was also curious if I would let her smoke in my car since she was already stressed out OR if I would save her from dying another day earlier and ask her to put it out. When I went back to help her in my car the smoky stick was gone.

On the way to Roscoe Blvd I found out that her name was “Esther” her daughters’ name was also “Esther” I guess that makes her daughter a “Jr.” huh? She explained that her daughter would be very, very angry to know that she took a ride with a stranger. I told her I understood and suggested that she call her to let her know what was going on. I guess she felt pretty comfortable with me because she didn’t feel the need to call.

After a 10 minute drive I left her safely at her place of employment. It really felt great to be able to help someone tonight. I wasn’t in the greatest place and that was the perfect medicine to make me feel better. Thanks Esther and your daughters’ old ass Toyota Camry wit a jacked up fuel pump. You helped me have a better night than I would have had without you.

Audition: "DiGiorno's Pizza" @ Ross Lacy Casting. .......hmmm this goes okay, not too great. It's a long story, I don't think I was right for the part I read for. I was right for another part and I knew it, but I was switched because one of the other actor didn't know the copy. Anyway, callbacks are when I would be flying back from Virginia. We'll see.

Airing: “Love, Inc.” on UPN. I shot this during the first the week of September and it was originally scheduled to air mid-October. I’m not sure why the air-date was changed, I’m just glad it didn’t get totally scrapped.

I have to say, I was happy with how it turned out. It would have been nice to have more dialogue, but I’ll get ‘em next time. I’m going to finally put together a reel and I think there is a piece or two from the show I can use.Now the question is: Are they going to bring our characters, the geek/nerds, back? I mean our situation was totally left open; the matchmakers didn’t help us at all. They should bring us back for a couple of episodes and get us the help we desperately need to get some chicks. Right?

Audition: "Merrill Lynch" @ Ross Lacy Casting.

Callback: "Toyota" @ Danny Goldman & Associates. Cool, I'm really glad to be getting a callback at this office.

My wonderful agents @ KSA are keeping me busy still and I so appreciate it. One of the agents, Brooke, is driving winter items down to an orphange in Mexico. So she put out an e-mail to request any items we could donate. This was great for me because I was able to gather 4 bags of clothing to give. I had been "meaning" to donate the clothing to a local organization, but her request made it so that actually "did" something about it. Thanks Brooke and I think what you are doing is extremely generous.

Audition: “Toyota” @ Danny Goldman & Associates. Cool, I’m glad to get back in this office so soon. I was there about two weeks ago, but before that it had been like four years.

Audition/Producers: “My Name Is Earl” @ Dava Waite Casting. Wow, perfect timing! Why? Because I was randomly selected to vote for the 12th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards in the Primetime Television Category. As a result I’ve been receiving a whole bunch of primetime television DVD's in the mail and just the other day I got a couple episodes of “My Name Is Earl”. I’ve seen the show before and like it a lot, but it’s always great to have a couple of fresh episodes right in front of you.

The creative team behind "My Name Is Earl" is the same team behind "Yes, Dear". Dava hired me for "Yes, Dear" and "Hot Properties" and I would love to get in on this one as well.

Audition: “AOL” @ Jeff Rosenman Casting.

Friday, December 09, 2005

Audition: “In Search of the Perfect White Woman” @ Maslar/Liem Casting. Interesting title huh? My agent seemed to be a little suspect about the project, but knows that the writer/director Alonzo Brown has a history in the industry. Actually, he is the writer of 2003’s “Honey” starring Jessica Alba and Mekhi Phifer.

Can I say, again, that I really like my agents? I mean when Caleigh called with the appointment I really got the feeling that she was rooting for me. I like that feeling.

The character I’m reading for is “Derrick” a wannabe rapper trying to come up in the game. He is really bad at rapping so that works well for me - Stephon. If you are curious; I like “Derrick”, suck at rapping too.

“In Search of the Perfect White Woman”. The title alone is sure to get some attention. There is no imdb listing for the project so I googled the title to see what I could find. Ha! I found a website exclusively devoted to White Women and their search for Black men. WHAT! Obviously, I know that interracial relationships are common; I’ve been in a few myself. BUT I didn’t have any idea that the demand was this great; at least according to this site. Wow, you can find anything and everything on the internet – even if you aren’t looking for it.

Partners Ricki Maslar & Caroline Liem both greeted me warmly when I arrived at the office. Actually, Ricki hired me several years ago in an indie film called “XCU”. When Caroline took me in the room to audition writer/director Alonzo Brown immediately said he had seen me before in a film or TV project or something. I haven’t really been in anything lately and didn’t wanna lie so I just paused and said “Good! – CUT!”. That got a good laugh from the room; which helped me get in a groove to read. The producer handed him my resume, he looked it over and seemed quite impressed. That was a cool feeling.

I always feel I have a bit more freedom with the text in a film audition vs. television so I was feeling quite free. The read went well, really well. I added a couple of extra things to the text and it just flowed for me. I was happy with the results. Oh yeah, this was one of the lead roles.

So I leave the office feeling really good and I’m waiting for the elevator to come and I hear “Stephon!” I answer “Yes”. It’s Caroline coming out to get me to say that the director wants me to read for another role – this time it’s “Rodney”, the lead in the film. Cool.

So I go back in 45 minutes later and have a good read for “Rodney” as well. I felt “Derrick” was a lot more fun, but I think on I may be more right for “Rodney”. We’ll see. I called Caleigh to tell her how it went and she was really, really excited.

This was a really good ending to the week because I haven’t been feeling like myself, physically, since returning from my Thanksgiving vacation. I’m just really tired and not my normal motivated self. I’ve been faking my way through it, just trying to make it through the next couple of weeks until I can go home and recharge. It always happens like this before I go home, I kinda run myself really, really hard and then I leave town and return ready to rock and roll. The cool thing is that I go home and really disengage from my LA hustle – which I think is good because it is a real hustle.

Last night was particularly bad, I was feeling horrible. So bad that I cancelled a workshop I was scheduled for. Get this, I love taking baths, but I rarely do because I don’t like my bathroom. I usually only do it now when I stay in a hotel. So last night I really want to take a bath, so I do. I ran my water, took a couple of Nyquil, an Airborne pill and some Vitamin C. I woke up later, naked in the tub, with no water in it!! WHAT!! Yeah, my brother laughed his ass off when I told him that. I laughed my ass off too. Being sick sucks! I’ll be back though. I think the next two weeks I’ll try to keep working out at the gym and start playing tennis with my new tennis racket. I’m sure I’ll be doing drops and auditioning too.

I look forward to two more Nyquils tonight! I’m gonna sleep like Sleeping Beauty tonight. I can’t wait!

Saturday, December 03, 2005

A couple days ago I received an invitation for me and a guest to “Mekhi Phifer’s 3rd Annual Holiday Party”. I was really surprised when I got it. I’m not sure why; I just don’t expect these sorts of things.

This was to be a pretty big event with over 1,000 people on the guest list. I guess that’s a lot of people. I can barely get 8 people in my studio apartment. Anyway we were instructed to park at the local high school, check-in and a shuttle would take us to his home where the event was being held. When my date and I arrived there was already a line to check-in.

Finally, after in a bit of time in the bitter, cold LA weather we were on the shuttle through the narrow, winding roads to his home. The theme this was New York famous club Studio 54!! My date and I had been to Mekhi’s house at the wrap party for the film he directed “Easier, Softer Way”. His place was unbelievable to me then, but he took it to way beyond the norm. What’s normal in Hollywood right?

The entire entrance to the estate was redone to resemble a New York club. They even had club security and paparazzi taking photos of the guests as we entered. There was even graffiti on the walls outside. I was wondering how he was going to get 1,000+ people in his house.

I was told that the set director from the film did his house for the party. They basically covered much of the outside grounds thus making it also indoors. There was all kinds of different rooms set up one with a blackjack/poker table, some more cosy, some wide open. It was really, really cool. After dancing for a good while with my date I finally figured out that we were actually on top of the pool. Yeah, they had built this huge platform over the pool for the main dance floor.

You couldn’t possibly see everyone that was there, but I did see a lot of people from the movie, cast and crew. Some that I did see were rapper Nas, Meagan Good, Regina King, Danny Masterson, Jamie Foxx, Cedric the Entertainer and the always exciting Bobby Brown. Thanks Mekhi!

Audition: “Bud Light” @ Kathy Knowles Casting. This went well, I was a back packer again having an encounter with a bear.

Thursday, December 01, 2005

Audition: “Jack-in-the-Box” @ Alyson Horn Casting. Ahh, this one went okay. Callbacks are tomorrow, I have a feeling I won’t be getting one.

Audition: “Grape Nuts” @ Jessica J. Casting. This one went well. I was a back packer having an encounter with a couple of bear.

Wednesday, November 30, 2005

Audition: “ABC-7” Promo @ Danny Goldman Casting. I haven’t been in this office since Nov. 27th 2001. Wow. The audition goes well so hopefully I’ll be back on their radar in the future.

After a really long day of flying I am back in Los Angeles. I had a great time in Birmingham, Alabama with my family. It was so nice to get away from the big city hustle for a minute.

Since I was the last one flying in my family was pretty much waiting for me to have dinner. Let me tell you, I ate, I ate, I ate and I ate. Typically, I eat very little and very slow. I mean I’m like the slowest eater in the world. Actually, if I eat too much or too fast I will usually get sick to my stomach. BUT I love to eat!! I’ve always been this way. I weigh the same or even a little less than I did when I was in high school. Fortunately, I didn’t get sick this time, I think because most of what I ate was home cooked stuff.

For the first time in my life I went shopping on Black Friday, well I did more window shopping than anything else. It was complete chaos. Not really my thing, but interesting to watch nevertheless. I had a much better time going to the outlet malls, I try to only do the “full price thing” when I really have to.

We also went to the newly opened Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. It was quite the spectacle, lots of fish and many other creatures. I had never seen a penguin or touch a shark. It was pretty cool, I recommend it.

All in all, it was just great to be with my family again. I’ll get to see them again in Virginia Beach in about 3 weeks.

Thursday, November 24, 2005

YES!!!! I am leaving for Birmingham, Alabama this Thanksgiving morning and I cannot wait. I am so ready for a break from most of my regular routine, but I’ll be back before I know it.

This is going to be a great trip. I’m going to visit my sister and her family AND my youngest brother and his family are flying in from Virginia Beach as well. I am really looking forward to spending time with them. I love my family so much, I just wish there were more pockets of the great connection I have with some of my family members.

We are also planning to visit the new aquarium in Atlanta that is billed as the largest one in the world. It’s been a minute since I’ve been on a road trip; so this is great timing.

Tuesday, November 22, 2005

Audition/Producers: “Jake in Progress” @ Megan Branman Casting. This for a one day guest starring role.

Audition: “Sealy Mattress” @ Keri Peyton Casting.Oh yeah, I also got word that the episode of "Love, Inc." that I shot airs on December 15th. Finally!!

Monday, November 21, 2005

Callback: “Staples” YES!! The call comes in this morning for a callback for the “Staples” spot I went in for on Friday. I’m glad I’m finally at least getting callbacks for Ross Lacy, because he gives me more chances commercially than anyone else in this town. For the longest while I wasn’t getting ANY callbacks for him, but that has changed recently. This callback goes well so we’ll see.

Class tonight at Amy Lyndon was great.

Today is Mom’s birthday. Wow, what a void. BUT I am handling it well, much better than in the past. I am so glad that she got to see some of my work before she passed.

I think she raised me well and I hope I can do as much for the children I plan to have one day. I often think back and wonder what kind of child my parents thought I was. Well, I think it’s obvious what my father thought of me – not much, but that’s another story for another time. I think my mom thought I was a little odd; at least quite different than what she was used to growing up in the projects just outside Philadelphia.

I was a curious kid and I mean curious about everything. I am still that way even today. I was always interested in how things worked. It’s funny, because looking back I probably seemed a bit like a “mommas boy”. Nah, that wasn’t the case though. It’s just that I wasn’t afraid of what people thought of me. I mean, I remember @ 7 or 8 years old my mother teaching me to fry an egg or years later learning to make a box cake. My mother, being a seamstress, could always count on me to help her hem her dresses and pants. I took a foods class in high school; that was a convenient way for my extremely nerdy-ass to get next to some girls. I had limited success at that.

I think the reason nobody really tested my “manhood” or I guess “boyhood” is that I had MAD SKILLS on my BMX bike, could ride the heck out of a motorcycle and I could fix things. Oh yeah, I had skills on the neighborhood football field too.

I say all of this because even though most of what I did as a kid was foreign to my parents, they never really stopped me from doing the things I wanted. I mean we used to catch snakes and frogs at the golf course and bring them home as pets. I remember building a ramp and jumping over my VW bug in front of the house. So I’m thankful that they never stopped us because those little things can prevent us from being free to pursue our lives. I feel free to pursue mine and I thank my mom for that. Happy Birthday Louise L. Fuller!!

Audition: “Staples” @ Ross Lacy Casting. It goes well.

This afternoon I was back in the saddle as a reader for Natasha Cuba/Kelly Wagner @ Nancy Nayor Casting. This ended up being a kind of a long session even though we didn’t see that many actors. The director, Paddy Breathnach, was spending A LOT of time with everyone. It was great to see such patience and also interesting to see people take direction – or not. This was the last session before Paddy goes back to Dublin.

I’ll say it again – it’s so insightful being a reader. It’s amazing to see these young actors come in that have so much going on – even though you have probably never heard of them. Some of them will blow up in the coming years. I witnessed one actress given the pros of doing the project even though it would totally take her out of her first pilot season here in LA.

Audition: “Criminal Minds” @ April Webster Casting for Scott David. Scott called me directly for this on my cell phone. Funny because I was at the dentist and I thought I’d put my phone on silent, but actually it was vibrate – thankfully. He tried my agent, but it was lunch time. So if I hadn’t answered he probably wouldn’t have left a message and moved on to the next person the he could actually talk to. I wouldn’t have been able to return the call because it came up as “UNKNOWN ID”. I guess the lesson in that for me is to realize that if my phone is on silent I may miss an opportunity because I definitely think I would have missed this one.

Anyway, it was a last minute reporter role added to the script. This is what I’ve been trying to accomplish – getting what I call “in casting directors’ mouth” meaning that if they are putting together a session to go straight to producers I want to be one of the first 5-7 actors that they think about. That way I am not depending on my agent, breakdowns or anything like that, but I’m doing my part to help the whole effort.

Now here’s the not so great part. The audition just went “so so”. I was rushing to get there and I didn’t stop to “FOCUS”. I had another commitment on the other side of town that I was driving there from and I was the last actor to read. No excuses, my fault, I had the time, even just 2 minutes to collect myself, but I rushed myself. There were no other actors there so I went right in the room.

I wasn’t horrible, I had some nice moment, I think. It just wasn’t together like I would have liked. Yes, I’m guilty; I yelled “F&%K!!!” a couple of times when I got back in the car.

Today marks 3 years since losing my mother to cancer. I did pretty well in moving forward with it, better than last year and MUCH better than the year before. The only trouble spot was someone who I know meant well, but sorta forced me to think of it in a bad way. THAT was troubling for me to say the least. I’m not out of the woods yet, her birthday is next week so I’ll probably shed a tear or two at some point. I miss her dearly.

Audition/Tape: “The Office” @ Allison Jones Casting. This goes well. Allison even commented that she thinks she got my photo from my own drop-off. I like hearing that. Of course I would like to book it, I felt great in the room and feel that Allison and her associate Dorian Frankel will bring me back in for other stuff.

A last minute call comes in from Janine Sugawara @ Nancy Nayor Casting asking if I can be a reader this afternoon. Of course I said yes. I’d met Janine and Joanne Bloom from that office at Actorsite and volunteered to be a reader. Actually, it’s for Natasha Cuba and Kelly Wagner working in conjunction with Nancy Nayor Casting – I think. Anyway, the film is called “Shroom”. Yeah, like psychedelic mushrooms. It’s a horror film directed by Irishman Paddy Breathnach. It was a lot of fun, Natasha and Paddy seem to be really happy to have me there and surprised I was so prepared. She introduced me to Kelly Wagner and they requested photos from me for their files.

I always say that being a reader is unbelievably educational and I’ll say it again. This was a great thing for me. If you get a chance to do it – do it.

I am conducting a “Power Lunch” at Actorsite today. I am not really sure what the format is, but I assume it will be a bunch actors discussing ideas of how to make it happen. Maybe I can find some tips too!!!!

Friday, November 11, 2005

Well, I have to assume they moved on without me for the “KFC” spot. Dag! BUT I also didn’t get a release from my avail, which I usually get. So maybe I’m still in the running…..I won’t hold my breath though. NEXT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got some great news from a friend, she booked her first national commercial for “Comcast”. I am particularly tickled because a year or so ago she wanted to take a commercial course with a teacher around town. I had no problem with that particular teacher, but I thought Craig Colvin would be a better choice because he is a working casting director who is on the pulse of what is happening in the industry. I actually went to his office, spoke to him directly and passed on the brochure to her……..and to her credit she acted on the information. She learned alot from the course and gained much more confidence. Through mailings she had some meetings with commercial agents but they passed on her. Around this time Craig started calling her directly for auditions. I think she got callbacks on 2 of the first 4 and booked the 4th one. It was a non-union spot so she didn’t have to join SAG just yet(she’s SAG-Eligible). She approached one of the reputable agencies that previously passed on her and they were eager to sign her since she had just booked.

Well months passed and that reputable agency did very, very, very, very little to help her in ANY way, BUT Craig Colvin kept calling her whenever he could for both union and non-union commercials. This is the first SAG commercial she has booked. It just shows the many ways to move forward in this career. Have a great shoot and I hope you make a ton of money on it!

Callback/Avail: “KFC” @ Ross Lacy Casting. YES!! This is for the spot I went in for on Tuesday. The audition was really funny. It was a take off of “The Jerry Springer Show”. I had a great time during the original audition. I told them “I just came to get my ‘Jerry Beads’”. “JERRY!, JERRY! JERRY!”

Well, the callback went great….I think. The director said it was funny and allof the rest of ther crestice team laughed. When I signed in I saw that they are having another round of callbacks tomorrow/Friday for the food. I guess they want to see how the actors interact with the chicken. I can tell you that I interact with chicken really good. So I guess they will see who they like from the callbacks and then bring them back for another look. I hope I get another callback.

I ran into my friend Margaret Easley at the callback. Actually we auditioned together at the first audition. I met Margaret while doing a "US Postal Service" commercial several years ago. Although I see her on TV more than I do in person I think she is just a great person. I am always more inspired after talking to her. This time the topic of discussion was buying a condo or house. This is something I am a little bit obsessed about these days. I think buying property will make my relationship with Los Angeles a much better one. So I am trying to get things together (credit, savings, etc.) to make that a reality. Plus, I think the housing market is going to burst in the near future. At least I hope.

Audition: "Eve" @ Powell/Melcher Casting. Ewww…this one goes ok. I think I made the character a little too charactery. Maybe I was more sketch-like and less mutli-camera comedic. Gotta work on that.

Wednesday, November 09, 2005

What a day today! I was driving around like a madman, but I got it all done. Three auditions, plus a dentist appointment and a workshop. I'm beat...and it feels good.

Audition: "Kellogg's" @ Ross Lacy Casting. I auditioned here just yesterday and this one went well.

Audition: "TGIF" @ Kathy Knowles Casting. I felt good about this one too. Actually, really good, I felt like my partner and I gave them something different. For better or worse!

Audition/Producers: "Boston Legal" @ Valko/Miller Casting. Cool, that didn’t take long to get back in this office. I was there just two weeks ago. I did my thing, so we’ll see what happens…..if anything.

Tuesday, November 08, 2005

Audition: "KFC" @ Ross Lacy Casting. I am so overdue at this casting office that I won't even talk about it, actually I am overdue in a lot of casting offices.

I got my first call today from my new theatrical agent, Caleigh. She was going to submit me for a series regular role that required a sketch and stand-up background. She called to see if I had that background, unfortunately I don’t, but it was great to talk to her. She is so energetic that it’s catchy; I am really looking forward to working with her.

Monday, November 07, 2005

Audition: “GE” @ TLC/Loree Booth Casting. It’s always a pleasure to audition here and anywhere else for that matter, but this office doesn’t usually do callbacks so I always feel like I’m really close. Gotta think positive!

FINALLY she's here!!! I became an uncle for the 5th time yesterday. Nikita Fuller was welcomed into the world @ 6:30am in Prague, Czech Republic. My brother, Tommy, has been living there for the last 5 years. I went for a visit in 2003 and it sounds like I need to plan another trip soon. The proud parents will hopefully visit the US in the Spring.

While running on the treadmill this morning (trying to maintain my girlish-figure!! I do live in LA!) I thought about how fortunate I am. I mean things are really good for me. Sure, there are some elements of my life that could be better, but I am definitely on the right path. Let me tell you, I know firsthand, what it's like to "not" feel like I'm on the right path and it can be challenging.

Yeah, I'd like to have parking, more in my savings account, buy a condo or house, get married, have children, become a better performer, finish my script, book more substantial roles in TV/Film/Commercials and Stage, learn how to ride Motocross better, do more consulting, be a better boyfriend(during the times when I am one), have a relationship with my father, get my oil changed in my car and two tires, etc. But I gotta tell ya, I am moving forward in almost everything I just listed and that is a great feeling. Step-by-step baby!!!

Saturday, November 05, 2005

Today I went to see Casting legend Sheila Manning and Breakdowns Service mastermind Gary Marsh speak about commercial casting. Let me tell, it’s incredible how things have changed since I arrived in LA 7 years ago. Sheila said that she hasn’t used a VHS tape in months. Normally she would put audition on a VHS tape and have to FedEx it to New York, but now all of the sessions are uploaded to a virtual network. The client, ad agency, director, etc. can literally watch the auditions within minutes anywhere they have an internet connection. Crazy, it happens so fast.

The sessions was quite informative and I will definitely use the tips they gave to give me more of a chance to book commercials. I need all the help I can get!! Matter of fact, I might take Craig Colvin’s Commercial course to brush up on my skills.

Thursday, November 03, 2005

I found out from the casting associate that the role I went in on for “Boston Legal” was cut from the script. That was good to hear. Now I know at least one reason why I didn’t book it. Hopefully, they will bring me back in very soon for something else.

Wednesday, November 02, 2005

Busy day on tap, three auditions. This is the way I like it....until I get burned out and I’m screaming to get the ^&%* out of LA for a bit, which I feel happening at the moment. I definitely have a bit of a love/hate relationship with this city. Maybe “love/hate” is a bit strong, how about “love and “why the ^&* can’t I park there!!!” relationship. Don't get me wrong LA has been great to me, but sometimes I just want something a bit slower paced.

I have it pretty good as it is, spending about 6+ weeks a year at home on the East Coast. There are some things that could change my perspective like........and........yeah those things would be an interesting addition.

Audition: "Wal-Mart" @ Joe Blake Casting. This goes well and I think I'm right for it.

Audition: "The George Lopez Show" @ Zane/Pillsbury Casting. This the 3rd time in the last 3 weeks that I have read for this casting office. I haven't booked yet, but I think I am doing my job right. I just have to stay on the course of doing good work and the rest will work out......right?The character is a guy who is about to get married and he's getting some counseling about it. Ha! Sounds like my life! Moving right along….......The audition went well. They gave me a little redirect and I felt like I gave them what they asked for.

Tonight I'm conducted an orientation for another group of actors from Actor's Connection in New York. They are in LA testing the market. This was a nice, spirited session. At times I felt like a street preacher. I love to talk about things that I'm passionate about and I'm really passionate about business. Not just show business, any kind of business.

Audition: "Aftershock" @ Pemrick/Fronk Casting. Okay, I was late getting to this audition because I was talking to the New York group. I don't usually have appointments at 7:50pm, but I'm thankful. I've been trying to get into this casting office for years. They cast tons of independent films. It was a little weird because even though a lot of people were in the waiting room I was taken in immediately because they paired me up with another actor I hadn't even taken my jacket off yet when I was brought in the room.

The other actor wanted to talk about another project we had worked on together. It was great to see him, but I didn't want to talk about it right then in front of the Producer, Director and Casting director. So that started off a little weird, but I think I recovered and got back on track. When I came out of the room I ran into a dear friend of mine which was a really nice surprise.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I have a new theatrical agent. Well not exactly a new agent, but an additional agent at my theatrical agency. Her name is Caleigh and I already like her. She is young and energetic and even knew who I was when I walked in her office. I know that if my existing agents brought her on board she must have her stuff together. Caleigh was brought in because one of the partners, Josh Schiowitz, is relocating back to the New York office.

Callback: "Tostitos" @ Deborah Kurtz Casting. YES!! The audition was fun and I felt a little connection with the director. On the way out one of the other actors in my group said that he knew that it was already cast. I don't know why he said that, but he seemed convinced of it. I didn't let it get me down though, I'm still gonna hope for the best. Those Tostitos tasted really great. I could eat those all day on set…..well not all day……..well yeah, all day.

Monday, October 31, 2005

Class tonight was a little different since it was Halloween and a lot of people didn't show up. We did monologues, it's been a long time since I've done one, but it went well.

Friday, October 28, 2005

Audition “Boston Legal” @ Valko/Miller Casting. This office pre-reads me quite often and I go to producers every time, but I haven’t booked since “Ally McBeal” in 2001. I think it’s time to change that.

The audition went well enough to get a callback for a couple of hours later. Since I was way down in Manhattan Beach I took time to visit my favorite store - Costco!! Ha!

Anyway the callback went well, I felt, so we'll see what happens.

Thursday, October 27, 2005

Audition: “Office Max” @ Jeff Rosenman Casting. This was a lot of fun. I knew the session director and the lady I was partnered up with and we had a great time. I am right for this, call me back!

Wednesday, October 26, 2005

Audition: “Tostitos” @ Deborah Kurtz Casting. It goes well enough. I tried to get in on a “Sunny D” spot that was going on at the same time, but I was unsuccessful.

Tonight was the second episode of a series that my friend Jonathan Julian has a recurring role in called “Noah’s Arc” on the Logo Network. Actually, he’s been in everything episode so far. He got this role from a self-submission on Now Casting about 3 years ago. It was funny, shot well and definitely pushed the envelope.

Tuesday, October 25, 2005

Callback: “SBC/AT&T” @ Francine Selkirk Casting. This goes well. I mean, it was really simple, but everything felt really good. This spot should run a lot since it’s launching the new, merged company. It pays double scale and double scale residuals…NICE. I would love to get this spot. I guess time will tell.

Monday, October 24, 2005

Tonight I started a new acting class with Amy Lyndon. I think it’s going to be a good class to help me make better, more specific choices in my work.

Saturday, October 22, 2005

Okay, my call time for the 48-hour film project I’m doing this weekend is 7:30am. The name of the project is “Cast THIS”. The film is to be no longer than 8-minutes, has to have certain line of dialogue, a certain prop, a certain character name and the genre given to our team is comedy. All of these guidelines came down last night @ 7pm. That is when writer, producer, actress Julia Flint starting writing. By 1am we all had the script. We had a read-through @ 8:30am and started shooting shortly thereafter.

The story is about a disgruntled casting director trying to cast a project. I play one of the actors auditioning for the project. I knew several of the actors from Actorsite. It was a fun, amazing experience. I still cannot believe that we got it all done. I see “we”, but I really mean “them”, I was just a piece in the wheel. Thanks Julia!

Thursday, October 20, 2005

Go-see: “Pfizer” Yeah! A print go-see. This one is quick, fast and in a hurry. Cool, I’ll take it however I can get it.

Wednesday, October 19, 2005

Audition: “Citi Advantage Card” @ Alyson Horn Casting. This went really well. I have booked through Alyson in the past.

Audition: “Coors” @ Francene Selkirk Casting. Cool, I just auditioned here yesterday. This is where I had my first audition in LA on July 29th 1998. This on goes really, really well. We had a ball in the room. I have yet to book in this office, but that will change……. And I hope soon.

Audition: “Honda” @ Ross Lacy Casting. That makes three really great auditions today. Now let hope for some callbacks!!

Tuesday, October 18, 2005

Audition: “SBC/AT&T” @ Francene Selkirk Casting. This went really, really well; which has nothing to do with whether I’ll get a callback or not. That’s okay, as long as they keep giving me the opportunity to book. Eventually I’ll score again.

Check this out. As I was walking back to my car after the audition my phone rang. It was an “818” number I didn’t recognize. I thought maybe I left something at the audition and needed to return. So I answer my phone and it’s Alison Mize from Deedee Bradley Casting. She had just received my postcard and wanted to congratulate me for booking my first Guest Starring role. She had a lot of compliments for me. I had to tell her that the episode has been pushed and it won’t air on Thursday like it said on all of the 131 postcards I sent out. She said, “So what, the important thing is that you booked it”. Thanks Alison.

I did a scene for her at an event a couple of months ago and she commented that she was glad to get to see me work because she sees my photo all the time and now has a little more to go on. I was speechless. It was such a nice thing to do.

I’ve been trying to get in that office for a good while and it’s nice to know that all of the drops, postcards, etc. are not in vain. Hopefully, I’ll get in to audition in the future. My day was already going well and that just made it even better.

This was my first commercial audition in several weeks so I have a feeling that since it’s been a little slow lately commercials are going to pick up.

I am participating in the 48-Hour film festival with several other actor/producers/writers, some of which I know from the Actorsite Networking Group. The production takes place this weekend and we had our cast and crew meeting tonight. I think this is going to be a lot of fun. Oh yeah, since I got the surprise that the “IBM” commercial is being used worldwide I was able to make a donation to the production of the short film. It wasn’t much, but hopefully it will help with the craft services cost or something. In my future I really hope to be a philanthropist on some level. It can’t always be money; there are many other ways to give back.

At 6:30 my phone rings and it’s 2 commercial auditions for tomorrow. YES!!! Then @ 8:25pm I get a call for a third audition. I couldn’t believe my agents were still putting out calls. Actually, I’m not shocked. It’s just a good feeling to have such a great team to work with. Matter-of-fact after interning last week at Nancy Nayors office last Friday I’m going to send a thank you note to my theatrical agency just to let them know that I appreciate what they do and have done for me over the years.

Monday, October 17, 2005

Okay, it’s official. The episode of “Love, Inc.” has been delayed to who knows when. The good thing is that the person who gave me that info has seen the episode and said that it turned out really it’s very funny. That person is also close to one of the creators of the show and said that s/he would lean on him to bring the nerds back. Cool. Oh well, 131 postcards went out yesterday with the wrong date on them. Ooops.

Tonight I conducted another orientation for a group of New York actors testing the waters in Los Angeles. There a fun, energetic group with lots of questions about how the LA market works. I definitely don’t have the answers, but I’ve picked up some ideas along the way.

Friday, October 14, 2005

Ahh! What a day today was. I was planning to sleep in, but it was not to be. After a bunch of stuff I had to do this morning I was on my way home to grab a couple hours of rest. Right then I received a call from Janine @ Nancy Nayor Casting asking if I could intern for the rest of the day. They were swamped with submissions and needed help to open them.

So I arrived to a whole lot of submissions for 3 different films they are working on. The first thing it did was amaze me I get any appointments at all. I mean, there were so many submissions to go through. Boy, this is a tough business we are in. Fortunately, I bought my own letter opener with me.

When you go through over 1,000 photos it’s interesting to see what other actors’ methods are. I couldn’t understand the rationale of not stapling the headshot to the resume at all. You would think that attaching the two things would just make sense. I also noticed a lot of duplicate postcards. That seemed to be mostly people that were using labels. In this particular office they were addressed to three different people, but in reality the went in to one stack.

I can tell you that, from what I saw, everything gets looked at. If the submission had the right project and a character name it went into the stack with all of the agency submissions. So THAT was encouraging, but I gotta tell you the odds are……..well.

This was timely because I am in the midst of sending postcards for my appearance on “Love, Inc.” this week. Actually, they may have changed the date because there’s a different episode listed on tvguide.com. I’m kinda in limbo because I don’t want to send them with a date if it not going to air, but I need to get the word out that I booked the job.

Wednesday, October 12, 2005

Audition/Producers/Tape: “According to Jim” @ Zane/Pillsbury Casting. Cool, I just had a good audition with them last week. It’s all about getting them to trust you and to keep bringing you back. Of course, you wanna book too…..eventually. It went well so we'll see.

Audition/Producers/Tape: “Joey” @ Greenstein/Daniels Casting. Here's another casting office that recently called me to producers. This is what I’ve been trying to accomplish, so maybe I’m getting somewhere. Actually, I found out that the role I went in for on “Joey” a couple of weeks ago was cut from the script. I just have to keep my momentum up in these offices and build up a following. I felt good about this one too.

Friday, October 07, 2005

Airing: “Hot Properties” on ABC @ 9:30pm. I’m in one scene as a doctor. Okay, so while reading a review of the pilot yesterday I had a sneaking suspicion that I was cut from the episode. I was right, they left that scene out, so maybe they'll call me back in for something else.

Although, I haven't seen the "IBM" commercial but one time, I found out today that they are using it worldwide. Let me just say that is a good thing.....a very good thing and a big surprise.

Thursday, October 06, 2005

Audition: "In Justice" @ Zane/Pillsbury Casting. I auditioned for a series regular role on this show back during pilot season. So now I'm going in for two smaller roles, on tape for producers. It goes well, so I guess we'll see....or we won't.

Wednesday, October 05, 2005

Airing: “Weeds” on Showtime @ 9:30pm. I don’t have Showtime, but one of the other actors I worked with has a copy I’ll be able to see. He informed that my brief appearance was made even more brief through editing.

Tuesday, October 04, 2005

Audition/Producers: “Monk” @ CFB Casting. I’ve dropped off 2 or 3 times to this office this season for various things. They do call me in too. Actually, I booked a small part on “Weeds” which airs Wednesday the 5th on Showtime. This will be about the fourth time I’ve gone in for “Monk” and hopefully I’ll eventually get something on the show.

CUT TO:

Ooops! This didn’t go too well. At least I don’t think it did. As soon as I walked in one of the casting directors starting talking about the episode of “Weeds” airing this week. I thought that was cool that she actually remembered the particular episode that I was in.

The role I was reading for just had a couple of lines that ran pretty much together in the scene with a continuation to the very next scene. I chose to just run it all as one scene instead of doing one line, cutting, and then doing the other line. It was totally my fault and my flow got kinda jacked up when they broke it up into two separate scenes. It said “Start” and “End” on both pages, so I have no one to blame, but me. Ewww!

Monday, October 03, 2005

I bang the pavement hard with drops this morning. Last week was kind of quiet and I would like this week to be different. I was really hoping to get a callback for “The Unit”, but it looks like they moved on without me. I think I’ll get back in that office before too long.

I had a list, mostly from the Actorsite to go on. About 18 different drops, I knew I wasn’t going to do them all today because they were all over the city and I have be careful of my gas consumption. The Actorsite list usually has many addresses that I haven't heard of and I don't know where they come from. That's cool though, it keeps me busy. The Actorsite is where I found the original listing for “The Terminal” and walked to the casting office, dropped off my photo and booked a role. Speaking of the “The Terminal”, I am still waiting for home video residuals which are MONTHS late…….did I say months? I won’t get into it, it’s sore subject with me right now……

So my first drop is way out in Pasadena and the traffic most of the way there is horrible. Well, at least I got to talk to my brother, Todd, in Virginia. We talk business practically everyday and I love that.

It seemed that almost every drop I did today was at an unfamiliar address. So I was totally feeling like “why am I driving waaaay out here? Traffic sucks. I should just blow these off today and go home and feel sorry for myself.” That’s when my alter-ego in the passenger seat looked at me and said “dude, stop bitching!” There are times when I just don’t feel like doing it. Sometimes I pull out my bag of tricks and sometimes I carry my ass home.

Today I opted to pull out the bag of tricks and see what I could find. It was my alter-ego (also me) telling me to "Keep it moving!", so that is what I did. I get to the first one in Pasadena and hand my photo to the receptionist and totally felt like it was a waste of time. I had to laugh, BUT I followed my own advice of “nothing is a waste of time, because you never know what the future will bring”.

So on to the next; it was in a neighborhood. First, I’m thinking that I’m in the wrong place so I double check the street and lo and behold I AM in the right place. It’s a house with a big ass dog barking in the back behind a fence. The spot was a little “hoodish” and I was like “yo, I’m outta here!” Then I was like “I drove all the way out here, I GOTTA drop this off, who knows what I might be walking away from”. For real though, I was kinda nervous about rolling up to someone’s front door.

I took my own advice and went for it. I walk up to the door looking for a drop box or something so I can “stick and move and be OUT”. NOTHING. I’m thinking somebody is going to come out on the porch and say “HEY get away from my shit!!!!!” At this point I’m laughing inside because I rarely get nervous in the field, but I was sweating bullets.

The front door was one of those heavy, black, metal security doors that you can’t really see into, but they can see out of. I couldn’t tell if anyone was looking at me so I was trying to be cool, but not really and finally I hear this voice. Oh sh*t. I couldn’t see who it was. So I ask “Can I drop this off for the casting?” Finally, I could sorta see who I was talking to; it was an Asian woman in her 60’s who didn’t at all look "Hollywood". She doesn’t know what I’m talking about, so I say “uh, can I leave this for the movie?” she replies “huh, moobie?” I’m ready to apologize and head back to my car and right then she says “KYC ProoooDuctions?” I say “Yeah!” and she opens the door and takes it and even says “thank you”. I thank her and breathe a sigh of relief. I head back to my car, but not before giving the barking dog “da finga, beeeyotch". Peace!

After a couple of wrong turns trying to get out of this very unfamiliar place I head to Sunset Blvd. for my next drop. But even this was an address I had never been to. The attractive receptionist greets me warmly and points around the corner to a woman who was sorting photos.I politely hand her my photo; she glances at it, then sees my name and looks right at me. Her look was so abrupt that it stopped me in my tracks. I was startled, so I said “Ha, have we met before?” she kinda nodded. I honestly didn’t recognize her so I said “ok, well, hey have a great day” and hopefully, gracefully made my exit. What a day.

Next stop was another unfamiliar spot on Las Palmas. The three women were very nice and responsive to me being nice and friendly. Whew, some normalcy.

Even when I got to Sunset-Gower Studios the security guard was a little weird, like I was the first actor to drop off a headshot. Anyway….back to work……………
