Audition: “IHG Rewards Club” @ TLC/Booth Casting.  It’s usually an interesting experience in the room at this casting office and this venture in did not disappoint.  I had a great time with the other actress I worked with.  It’s a Joe Pytka-directed industrial.  I’ve worked with him 3-times in the past and I’d love to make this the 4^th!

I responded to a posting on Twitter for a last minute request for someone to be a reader for a short film.  I had been wanting to start being a reader again so I responded, but I didn’t get a response.

So.

I figured I would just drive to the office an offer to help…if they needed me and that’s just how it played out.  It was a little awkward at first since I had no idea what I was reading, but after getting more info of what was happening in the scenes I was able to settle in.

Audition: “The Miller’s” @ Dava Waite Casting.  I left feeling very good about my performance in the room on this one.  And the lead actress on the show waved to me as she passed by in her car on the lot.  Maybe that’s a good sign…or she’s just a really nice lady.  Who knows, but I’m glad CD Dava Waite knows who I am and still calls me in for auditions.

Audition: “Lettuce” @ Ross Lacy.  Hmm…Lettuce?  Anyway, I had a lot of fun in the room with the other actors.

For the first in many, many years I went to a…gentleman’s club.  There were many scantily-clad women there.  They had stripped down to very little clothing…if any at all.  Interesting.  Not really my scene…I ain’t judging though.

Well, my agent got the news, and yes, “Verizon” is renewing the commercial for another cycle which means I’m out of the running for the “Samsung” spot.  That’s cool, at least I can expect a check in the mail…and who knows, maybe the “Verizon” spot will start airing again.  It was a slip up from my agency, but I’m glad it happened like that.  It’s always good to get a callback and I like having my name float through the office for a progressive reason.

It conflicts with my “Verizon” spot of which the holding period ends today.  The spot hasn’t aired since very early in the year so I’ll see if my agent can find out if I’m going to be held for another holding period.

Wow!  Today I had a great conference call with 2 of my 3 brothers about the possibility of working together in the future in business.  Honestly, I couldn’t have imagined it going any better than it did.  I’m really excited for the future!

Something else interesting happened today.  I stopped by my old job to say “good-bye” to a manager who was leaving and my former senior manager asked if I was interesting in returning to work…  I wasn’t sure if she was kidding or not, but I like to have options.  I responded, “Hey, ya never know…”

Shooting: “Southwest Airlines” @ LAX.  This day on set, for me, was a great reminder that this “acting stuff” isn’t necessarily easy.  It’s the professionals that make it look easy. 

Most of the day went great, but a few times I had a bit of difficulty giving the director exactly what he needed from me to get the shot.  It was just a reminder to ALWAYS bring my “A game” to set class, auditions, callbacks, shoots and just life in general.  Eventually, we got the shots we needed and wrapped a long 12+ hours day.  Good stuff!

Fitting: “Southwest Airlines”.  What’s not to like about getting paid to try on clothes for a commercial shoot?  Especially on a weekend which makes it double pay.  Yup, I’ll take that!

My cell phone rings and it’s my commercial agency.  My first thought is that it’s concerning the Southwest Airlines avail.  As usual I let it go to voicemail. 

Normally I have a good indication if it’s a booking or an avail release by the amount of time it takes for the voice mail message to come through. 

If it’s between 5 and 15 seconds I’m pretty sure the message is “Hey Stephon, it’s Xxxx from KMR and I’m sorry, but unfortunately you’ve been released from the XXXX avail.  We’ll get the next one!  Bye.”

Love them!

But if the message takes longer to arrive, 30 seconds to 1 minute, it’s usually good/great news.  That means either another callback or a booking!  This message took more than 30 seconds.

Tick-Tock.

Yay!  It was one of my wonderful, long-time agents, Brooke, giving me the great news that I had been booked on the Southwest Airlines commercial!  So, so excited!

The booking part used to make me feel as though “I’d won!”.  These days it makes me feel as though…”I’m winning”.

In my opinion booking the job is about 80% of where I’m trying to go.  I say that because just because an actor books a job doesn’t mean that actor will get to the wardobe fitting for that job.  I’ve experienced being “unbooked” an hour before the wardrobe fitting in the past.  Ouch.  With that, I have my fingers crossed while hoping for the best.

Audition/producers: “Bosch” @ Schiff/Audino Casting.  Aw man!   I was so ready for this.  The first take was good I thought.  I got a redirect from the director, which is a good sign I think, but then I fumbled a line!  NOOOO!  C’mon man!  I can’t afford to blow opportunities like that.

Callback!  “Southwest Airlines” @ Cathi Carlton Casting.  I felt pretty good about this one I must say.  Of course that means nothing other than I feel pretty good about it.  We’ll see…
