Today is my day of work on “Easier, Softer Way”. Since I had a 12:30pm call I was able to get some drop-offs done in the morning. The first thing I notice after arriving on set was Danny Masterson’s name on the call sheet. All along I thought that Scott Grimes was playing one of the leads. Well I guess things change don’t they?

After checking in with the appropriate people and going through make-up and wardrobe I decide to go to the set and check out what they were shooting during the “hurry-up and wait” period. I catch up with Mekhi and Ronnie and say my hello’s and am meet Mekhi’s little brother; he’s a cool young cat who is looking to make moves himself.

The first AD on the shoot is Babu Subrumaniam; Babu directed the episode of “ER” that I worked on a couple of years ago. Matter of fact many of the crew are from “ER”. Mekhi is an actor’s director; he knows how to communicate to actors. He knows what he wants, is direct, but willing to listen. He also is the first to let you know when he likes something: you’ll see that big smile or hear him laughing out loud.

The scene was pretty quick for me; I was just in the very beginning of a larger set-up. All-in-all, it feels great to see what he’s doing and watch his career develop. I went to one of the open calls for “Clockers” back in 1993 in Philadelphia. Mekhi was booked for that film from an open call in New York. It didn’t matter how wrong I was for that character, I went anyway. Of course I had never heard of him because it was his first job. I was thrilled to get to work with him in 1997 in the film “Hell’s Kitchen”, again in 2003 on “ER” and now to be directed by him in “Easier, Softer Way”.

After I wrapped for the day I thanked Mekhi and said to call me if he ever needs a reader; he responded by saying he’ll call when needs another actor. I probably sounded like I was selling myself short, ooops. Anyway, he is a very down to earth, cool dude.

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for writing. I'm curious as to how you found this site. I'm looking forward to shooting, I had a great time with Mekhi & Ronnie during the audition process.

Hi there,
Thanks for writing back. I found your blog when I typed "Easier, Softer Way movie" into the Yahoo search engine. Originally, your blog came up on the first page; I believe it's on 3 currently. I actually posted on the June 7th page of your blog, but long after you'd written it. I hope it's not too weird having strangers who aren't even in the business reading what you write. I'm just finding it interesting. I like to see who I'm talking to when possible so I'm posting a link. http://photobucket.com/albums/b286/Jaims1973/?action=view¤t=Picture024.jpg

Well, anyway, again - good luck n' hope all goes well!!! Look forward to reading more.

People seem to find the site in the most random ways and I was curious as to how you did. Thanks for letting me know. Actually, I like my regular web site better with photos. Take care!

Hey, Stephon. Been enjoying reading your long-ass blog over the past several weeks now when I should be working. Have almost gotten through the whole thing. I think I'm up to mid 2003 right now. Makes for good reading. Someone asked a couple days ago what 'drop-offs' were all about and how you know where to do them, and I was wondering if you could comment on that. I think I know, but I'm not certain. Also, I hear some say that Vancouver is sometimes called 'Hollywood North.' Do you ever work up there?
thanks

Hey Al,

Thanks for visiting my site. As far as drop-offs go; I don't usually "know" where to go. I just know that I'm not casting anything in my apartment so it's better to get those photos out in the universe of things being cast. I try to have some method to my madness, but most importantly I keep moving. At every turn I try to think outside of the box and create fresh, new ways of making it happen.

I haven't worked in Vancouver yet.

That's so cool!! :D Thanks for sharing about "Easier, Softer Way"!! I'm looking forward to seeing it when it comes out. Lol @ the "hurry up and wait time." Took me a sec. to figure out what "AD" was, but now I see.

I've been looking @ your webpage. You're very handsome. 'S cool that you were on ER. Now I have to go back and watch the "Finders Keepers" episode. I'm interested in seeing the Hell's Kitchen movie too. You know what? My grandfather was an actor as well, a character actor. Did you ever see "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" with Sidney Poitier & Katharine Hepburn? My grandad played the monsignor/ priest in that film. He was also the leprechaun in "Luck of the Irish" (old movie). Anyway, I've got my fingers crossed for you for that "Robbers" film. Have a good day! Take care.
