YES!! I get a callback for the "MasterCard" spot and it goes really, really well. About 30 minutes later I get the call that I on avail for Monday & Tuesday. This would really be nice; it looks like a fun spot.

Another appointment! Oh my!!! I have a pretty good audition for a "MasterCard" commercial at Alyson Horn Casting. I did an "Icehouse" spot about 2 years ago through this office.

Things don't seem to be improving at all with my mother. I am an eternal optimist, but when I watch the daily news it makes it easier to accept my mother leaving this life here on earth. We all have different ways of coping; I think of the things I will no longer have to worry about concerning her safety. Things like car accidents, robbery and any other random things that happen everyday to some unsuspecting, loving family. I don't how that sounds; obviously I would rather her be healthy, running around town doing her thing. I am going back home next weekend.

WOW!! My first audition in month. It's for "Sonic Burger" and goes well. I don't think a callback is in the cards, but I don't think stunk up the room. Another brief appearance on "Good Morning Miami" tonight, maybe one day I'll get to do something on the show.

Tonight I started a website design class at Los Angeles City College. I eventually want to launch my own www.stephonfuller.com site, but I want to do it myself. That way I won't have to rely on others for updates and such.

I kept my commitment to all of the plays. It was an entertaining weekend. Tonight I attended a reading/audition of a script that development group has been working on. They plan to shoot in early December. I was offered a part in the production, but my schedule is kinda hectic right now with the travel back & forth to see my family. Therefore I respectfully declined the role as I didn't want to put them in a bind with me being out of town.

Today I go over to Casting Director Susan Havins office to sign the contract for the just completed "Honda" commercial. She says that the client is really happy with the work and that you never know what can happen. I have my fingers-crossed that we get to do more with them. This weekend I am scheduled to see a play Friday, Saturday & Sunday night. I hope I can keep up. I got paid today for the "21st Century Insurance" commercial I recently did. They paid the actors extra to say thanks for being a policy holder. Wow!! I also found out that I didn't make the final cut of the spots. Too bad I was really looking forward to seeing it. Oh well, maybe now I'll get a GEICO spot; they run all of the time. LOL!!

Back in the saddle at "Good Morning Miami". This week I have no lines at all. I'll tell you, somebody is really looking out for me. I'm glad that they feel that my character should be around so often. I usually don't get to do too much, but that could change at any moment. Maybe when the expected "back nine" order comes in things will change a little. In the meantime I am having a great time.

Back on-set at "Frasier". I am not having a good morning. I had been on the phone with my family back East and then get caught in a little traffic at the gate at Paramount; therefore I was a few minutes late. Of course today I am in the first scene to be rehearsed. I literally walk in the stage door and my scene in the middle of being run. I'm like "ooops" and sneak around the other side to see my stand-in ready to go. They prop master gives me my prop, my stand-in helps me find my line in the script and two seconds later is my entrance, I completely blow it. Kelsey says "you can't hear back there can you?" I play it off like it was the real reason that I blew it. There was no excuse; I was totally at fault. All of this stuff was getting to me. Afterwards, I stand to the side in a daze for what seemed like forever; until the prop master totally got in my face about not returning the prop to him. I was tired, jag lagged, and dealing with my mom's illness; but I had to get my self together. I went to the prop master and apologized, but let him know that I wasn't having a good morning and could he back off a little. I've worked to hard to get here and I have to be professional.

While waiting for changes in the script at the line read in the make-up room David Hyde Pierce was getting a script autographed for a charity that was going to auction it. I had the smallest part in the show so I didn't want to "assume" that I would be asked to autograph it. I sorta ignored him so that it wouldn't be confusing, but he purposely sought me out to sign it as well. The shoot went well and I got to chat with some of writers and producers from the last episode and they thanked me for coming back. At the curtain call Peri Gilpin again told me that she predicts I will be back again in the future. I'll take her word for it. I am now officially recurring on "Frasier"!

Back on set at "Frasier"!! Kelsey even remembered me from a year ago. I get the official offer for "Good Morning Miami" for Thursday. Let me tell you I am going nuts these days. This split personality thing is taking its toll on me. There are so many great things happening in my career, but the events at home are like I have never dealt with before. One moment I am rehearsing with the highest paid TV actor in history and the next I am outside stage 25 in tears about my mothers' illness. It seems that the doctors don't feel that there is much more that they can do for my mom. I don't know how much time she will have left with us. I cannot believe this is happening.

Monday, October 14, 2002

It's official!! I am booked for "Frasier" in the role of "Jason" again. I work Tuesday & Wednesday. I also get word that "Good Morning Miami" has called about booking me for Wednesday & Thursday. They know that "Frasier" already has me on avail and have said that working Thursday will work out just fine.

With very little sleep we were back in the streets of Tokyo. We had a local named "Shinichi" guide us around to do a little shopping. We wanted to get finished early so we get a little sleep because we planned to stay out all night and just sleep on the plane. Later that night back at Gaspanic it almost didn't work, DJ and I were falling asleep in the club. We were almost ready to call it a night when 3 young ladies recognized us from commercial. Well that woke us up. We hung out, danced, and then went to a karaoke room for a couple of hours. After that we ate in an American style eatery, but then it was around 7am. It was time to go since our pick-up to go to the airport was at 10:45am. We said our good-byes and went back to pack our bags to go back to the states.

The flight back was again very relaxing. Korean Air really took care of us. While getting ready to board for return flight I figured out that I'd left my cell phone on the plane when we arrived in Tokyo. I called the airline; they tracked it and returned my phone to LAX for me.

After a long, long day yesterday shoot day is here. We had a mid-afternoon start so the morning was ours to see the sights. We started in Ueno where Craig, a serious motorcycle fan, was in heaven. From there we went to Akihabra. Akihabra is where all the latest electronics can be purchased. The amount of things to see is overwhelming. We made our way into the Llaox electronics store and scoped out some cool electronics. It was also here that we were recognized for the first time. WHAT!!! A cute young sales clerk asked me, in her best English, if she knew me. I said "no, I just arrived in Tokyo for the first time." Then she saw Craig and DJ and said "aren't you on the TV?" I wasn't even thinking that she could have seen the commercial on TV. When she saw that it was us she got so excited. It was weird; I mean she was really happy. Around this time we were so tired of walking and jet-lagged that we just wanted to go back to our hotel and sleep.

Time to hits the streets!! Roppongi here we come!! Ha!! Now, I rarely go out, here in LA, but I was really looking forward to hitting the streets of Tokyo. We had heard so much about Roppongi and the nightclub "Gaspanic" in Tokyo's famed seedy red light district that we had to check it out. We got there kinda early so it seemed pretty boring at first. This place stays open until like 9am so it was going to be a slow build. While at the club we saw our commercial numerous times. Since we didn't have to work the next day it was a late night.

Today I leave for Tokyo, Japan. WHAT!!! Yeah Japan! I had a feeling this was going to come to fruition, but not so soon. Anyway, here I am on a non-stop 12 hour flight from Los Angeles to Tokyo. We are being treated like kings. It is I, Craig Welzbacher and DJ Elliot. Craig is the one who got DJ and me in on the initial audition. We are now hearing rumors that they want to shoot 2-3 more spots before the end of the year. One possible location is the Swiss Alps. WHAT!!! This is beyond surreal. I mean, everything is happening for me exactly how I have rehearsed it. Not one thing is different so far, but I still have to pinch myself at times. Craig researched key points of Japanese customs for us to keep in mind to make this trip as best as it can be. We have a golden situation on our hands and we want to maximize it as best we can.

Here we are!! Tokyo, Japan. We are picked up at the Narita airport and driven straight to a wardrobe fitting 1 1/2 hours away at the Pyramid Films production headquarters. There we are reunited with several players from the LA production crew. First we are shown the two commercials that are currently running and we are very pleased. Afterwards we are fitted for the next days shoot. The director and a few others take us out to dinner. We eat a lot of...... well it was very interesting to say the least and we sat on the floor with no shoes. At this point we were completely exhausted, but DJ and I were determined to see some of the town. I lasted about five minutes before I was falling asleep in the first bar we went into, it was time to get some sleep. Oh yeah, I get word that I am on hold for "Frasier" again!!

I returned from Virginia today after spending time with my family, namely my mother. These days I truly feel like I have a split personality. At times I am Stephon Fuller-actor guy & street hustler. Other times I am Bryan S. Fuller (my given name) one of six kids dealing with the reality of my mother's mortality. This has to be the best & worst times of my life. My mother has been in the hospital for 35 days now and I don't know what the outcome will be. One thing for sure is that I am very fortunate to have this time with her no matter what happens. I can go see her and speak with her on the phone, not everyone gets even that. In these 35 days I have seen and heard her do and say things like never before. That in itself is beautiful.

Thursday, October 03, 2002

I knew this call was coming soon, but not this soon. Remember that "Honda/Japan" commercial that I did in August? Shortly after I get to Virginia I check my voicemail and I am asked this question. Can you be in Japan from October 8th-13th? Wow, this business sure is funny. Yes, I am available. I should find out for sure on Monday.

Tonight I am catching the red-eye flight home to Virginia Beach to see my family for a couple of days. My mother has been diagnosed with cancer and it doesn't look good. It is a very complicated situation for my family. I won't go into all of the reasons, but the bottom line is that I may lose my mother to this disease. I, like the rest of my siblings, have my good days and bad. My mom, on the other hand is really going through it, but she has her six children by her side. My father? He and I have never gotten along and this situation doesn't seem to be making it any better. In fact, it's as bad as it has ever been.
